I had a friend who bought a 2001 a while back. The boat will not run over 120 degrees, and misses. when he checked the thermostat it was missing. Any ideas on why the thmostat would be out of the boat? Also the timing seems to have been advanced. What is up with that?

Sometimes advancing the timing slightly works to improve performance based on geography or elevation. May have just been set wrong. Just go back to factory settings; if it runs better-problem was timing.

As for the thermostat, may have been removed to run cooler. Not the smartest thing to do except in a crunch. Should get a new one from SKIDIM.
