I wonder if the groundhog heard the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change release last night!
Anyway, I hope Phil is right- I'm ready to ski. Last March SUCKED for skiing in the midwest.

Well, considering the ice is still getting thicker, I think it will suck again in '07.

Now why is this global warming thing so bad?

I'm with you Alan. I'm in the South (NC) and I still wait until late May. Only my feet get wet on the ramp before that. I like it to be at least up near 80. We have clean bath water, mid-upper 80's thru mid Sept. Severe lightweight.
How warm is the water at Green Lake on one of those 95-100 degree days?

Reid,
The water is pretty chilly even in mid summer out towards the middle.. 200+feet deep !! The sand bars in the bays however have nice water to just lounge in all day. Water is crystal clear..

What kind of attitude is that? My prediction is that February will come in like a lion, out like a lamb. March will be skiable.

On our Lake the ice typically goes out within a few days of St Patricks day, last year it lasted a few weeks past. With our recent cold spell by the end of next week the ice is going to be 24" thick.
Hitting the water by mid to late April is good for me. Too cold any earlier than that for my old bones!

Holy hell you're optimistic. Must be nice to be north of Lake Michigan. We have 15 inches of snow in the back yard with up to an additional 24 inches expected by Tuesday....here's the forecast for this weekend off one of the local news websites:
Temperatures will fall into the single digits Saturday afternoon, and not get above 10° for several days. This would be the coldest air in three years. In addition, brisk winds will produce wind chills as cold as -25°. Also, air this cold can produce some very heavy lake-effect snow in a very short amount of time.
I don't really see any March skiing happening here!
Maybe the wife and I should head down Jbears way.....

Highs for Northern Chicago burbs is only 7(sat) and 5(sun).
Screw this stuff. March will not be skiable, maybe March 31 if we get a warm spell.
Rob, get yourself a sled. I sure would if we got the snow you folks do.

Reid,
I hopped in Green Lake last memorial Day and within a few minutes started talking funny. That place will keep your Coors Light cold all summer.

If it's liquid Joel will ski, you should see him do his fancy float with his hands and feet high out of the water.
