Does this look like this engine is mounted onto an exposed stringer or is it just the coloring?
Being new to this I'd appreciate any feedback on the overall shape of this 84 SN engine from what can be seen. Thanks in advance, Chris

Looks to me like the motor mounts are bolted to the aluminum cradle and the cradle is mounted to the stringers which is correct.

Overall condition. Looks like some cheapo plug wires, probably still has point ignition, a conversion to electronic is a cheap upgrade.
Very important and inexpensive item is the riser gaskets, see where the exhaust mainfolds meet the risers there is a lot of rust and you may even see some signs of water stains dripping down from that point. I think for about $10 you can replace those gaskets and it is a must. Just go easy on those bolts and use some liquid wrench. get rid of that fram oil filter and go with a quality filter like a wix. Make sure those stains on the intake are rust and not leaking fuel, you may need to tighten down all bolts on the carb or a rebuild if is leaking. Hard to tell about the condition of the hoses and belts. If thelook cracked just replace them. The hoses have a wire embedded in the rubber and even though they look good on the outside if they are original they are probably rusting on the inside and may be getting stiff and brittle. I agree with Alan, dump the Fram oil filter. Just about anything else would be better.

they definitely bolt to the cradle, if you notice there is a cut out on the stringers to get to your nuts..no pun. then they lag bolt the cradle to the stringer ------------- "the things you own will start to own you" |
