Hi,
I have a 1989 Ski Nautique. On the circulating pump, there are two small inlets/outlets that are blocked off(see picture). I don't see them on photos of other boats circulating pumps. Does anyone else have these? The problem is that the rubber stoppers perish after a while and tear, causing large leaks. I'd like to plug these up more reliably, or replace the pump with one that doesn't have the inlets/outlets. Any ideas? Cheers Greg

The water pump looks like someone replaced it with a standard vehicle water pump ??? The housing where the raw cooling water enters looks diferent also. What engine is this ?? Why is the cooling line to the exhaust manifold blocked off ? more pictures and information will help, need to know what you have first. Someone has changed out a lot of items. Hi Dennis,
It is a PCM (Ford) 351. The cooling system is a bit of a mix and match of parts... The thermostat housing is from a fresh water cooling system. Not sure what the previous owners did. There is cooling to the exhaust manifold. The whole setup is very odd. I am going to order a new raw water thermostat housing, and replace all the pipes as they should be - the current system works (has been in the boat for 4 years) and holds a good temperature. Yes, so the question is... what to do about the circulating pump? The diagram of the Ford pump in the back of the Skidim catalog looks the same... but the ones they sell don't have the extra little inlet/outlets. Cheers Greg

Greg, The outlet is off a closed system like mine,how have you set up the hoses on the other side of the outlet? Its doing my head in??? see pic AS for the outlets on the pump are they screw in or push in? Pic below of a pcm/351 pump,the casting is the same,but one outlet has a screw in bung. Pic below of standard open cooling sys parts minus hoses and fittings Before you order the pump off Skidim be sure of your engine rotation,one of the pumps they supply is bi-directional the other will only work one way-- skidim part no's 613 and 610 Diiferent thermostat for open v closed in physical size

That rubber plug that you indicated in the picture, was originally one of Ford's better ideas. If my memory serves me correct, that plug is available from Ford for pickups from 1973 thru 1992. May not be for 302-351, but for 360-390 group. ------------- rudderdad |

The outlet from the thermostat housing goes to a splitter which feeds the exhaust risers. Thanks for the photo of the raw water parts - I will buy them soon. I'm going to see if the circulating pumps small inlets/outlets can be blocked with metal inserts (hopefully something threaded. Otherwise, I might take the pump off and have the holes blocked up somehow (welded closed?) For the time being, I will buy some new high-temp, strong rubber stoppers. Oh, here is a pic showing most of the cooling pipes - what a mess! Thanks, Greg

Greg, I have all the parts and pieces you need,just removed from my SBFord.Thermostat housing ,circ pump , elbows the whole shooting match.

Thanks for the help.
I'm going to remove and redo the whole cooling system this winter (which has just started here in South Africa!). I'll try plug those outlets as Gary mentioned, otherwise I'll buy a new pump from Skidim. Thanks again, Greg |
