I helped a friend swap out a borg warner velvet drive 10-17-001 for a 10-17-004 in his correct Craft ski boat this weekend and the 10-17-004 would not pump due to the engine being a standard rotating motor. Can the pump be indexed or can the direction of flow be reversed int the 10-17-004 to work on a standard rotating engine?

hayhead, there are index marks on the pump. remove 4 pump bolts rotate pump 180 degrees reinstall bolts, torque to proper settings. Reinstall V/Drive in boat , go play.
Look at the position of pump on old unit and you will see the wording. If you are careful you won't harm the o-ring.........boat dr

hopefully you guys didnt damage the pump by sitting there and running it and reving the engine trying to figure out why it wouldnt work, make sure you remove the pump and look at it for scoring from running it without oil

normally the asi-71c is a bushing case and has 1 reverse plate or a fiber plate for reverse, the 10-17's after time started using a seal ring case in which there are 4 seal rings on the planetary and ride wear the bushings use to be. the early 120-17-001's still used 1 reverse plate along wiht the 10-17-002's. its when the 10-17-003 and 004' came along and they went to 2 reverse frictions and one steel seperator plate between. I always prefer the 10-17 series, even though the as1's are durable too. everything else is basically the same inside except for some baffle changes, dipstick changes and breather changes

Eric, do you know where I can purchase a 10-17-001 Velvet Dr. Transmission 1:1 gear ratio. I just pulled mine out of my 1981 Ski Nautique. Thanks

Eric hasn't been with us for a couple years. He sold the business and moved on. To my knowledge his "right hand man" is still running the business and per Eric is as good as he was/is. Get in touch with http://fantasticfinishmarine.net/" rel="nofollow - Fantastic Finish Marine and talk to then about rebuilding your trans.

How did pulling the trans go? Any problems? Don't forget a new damper. Ebasic power has the best prices on the Sachs plates.
