| Two vertical posts on aft railing have broken off where welded to the base. What is the best way to repair? Weld? I've tried to locate 1/2" round base fitting without success. Thanks. |

jl, From looking at your pictures, it looks like having them re welded may be your only option. I'm not aware of a female socket type base that would replace the exsisting. The smallest ones made are for 7/8" OD but the angles I don't believe are shallow enough. You shoud plan on taking the boat to a weld shop so he can tack weld first and then remove the railing to finish welding. If he doesn't tack first, the position of the base screw holes will be hard to match. After welding, he can chemically remove the heat tint from the weld or buff them out.

Actually it happened when people climb up on the swim platform and grab the rail to pull themselves up. |

Maybe the welding shop can beef it up on the inside were you can't see it. Cannot add to pete's fix,tack the breaks first then remove.Heli-arc will give the strongest weld,some discoloration will result.

The front of the railing is an aprox 1/8" threaded piece that is secured from the bottom.
Its a b#@tch to get to but needs to be checked,the nut probably came off allowing the rail to start pivoting on the bolt plates at the stern stand off legs. I had to pull the bin under the rear deck to get to them. You might also look for a small machine or fabrication shop. The work with all sorts of stuff. Stainless is no sweat for then. Ditto on the tacking it before removal. Its not just the screw holes the angle of the leg has to be correct, if its left/right or fore/aft alignment is wrong it will stress the weld again and probly stress crack the gel coat when you tighten into place.
