now that i can finally use my boat and not worry about it not cranking, i can enjoy it more and at the same time work on other things on the boat. i have some vibration and thanks to this great site, have inspected the prop and have a small ding in one blade and a little more than small bend in another blade. i also want to check alignment. don't know history of the boat other than the 3 years i have had it. never
have had prop off. if i remove the cotter pin and nut on the prop, will the prop come off easy or will i need a puller? there is a respectable
prop shop across the state line in alabama that i
am calling tomorrow ( wed). what kind of pricing should i expect to inspect and fix my prop?

Bill, You will need a puller unless the prop has been put on incorrectly. The prop is held to the shaft with a taper just as a drill chuck is held into the drill press spindle. The nut simple snugs the prop onto the taper and is there as a safety so you don't loose it. The taper fit should be checked especially with a new prop. It is so critical that if it is bad, the recomended procedure is to clean it up with lapping compound.
Do not try beating it off. Get or borrow a puller.

Re: pricing. I had several dings, etc on my prop and had it worked on this spring. A local shop cleaned it up and balanced it - beautiful...looked like new. They charged $65.

got a price from the nearest prop shop and only one i know of. $125-$175 with a 1 week turn-a-round. i was told by friend who has a mastercraft that they don't do too well on our type or prop (what are they, bronze???) anyway, i think it is the original prop. what size should i replace it with? '81 351pcm. or is there somewhere you guys ship yours to for a good job and price?

Bill, I hate to tell you but your friend needs some education about rebuilding props. He also needs some education on boats too because he bought a Mastercraft!! The bronze or Nibral prop is the most rebuildable prop out there! Maybe your friend is going to a marina who wants to sell him a new prop?

Bill, I used the delta prop shop listed on the advertising banner above. The repair was reasonable and they did a great job. the price even included shipping back to me.

I find that both of my local prop shops can't do a decent job on inboard props.I send mine to midwest prop in Olatha KS.They have done a very good job for me.

we had 2 prop shops...called my favorite and got a disco'd phone, my 2nd choice was gone too?!!? it hit me as a business opp, but I know less then zero about it...

what kind of a price are you guys talking about?
excuse my lack of knowledge, but what prop do i have now (81SN 351 ?tranny) maybe i can find a refurbished prop for a reasonable price. i see the delta prop shop on top of this page. will they know and recommend the correct prop i need?
