All of the sudden my steering is tight to the right, sometimes stops in a certain spot, unless you turn it back to the left a little, then it frees up. It turns fine with no resistance to the left. Is the steering cable worn out?

Sounds more like the helm assy, the cable could be at fault also.........

Mine did that for an hour. Then the cable broke. FYI.

I see that since I have the orginal white cable, I have to buy a clevis kit. Does that part connect to the rudder?

it may not be the cable. mine did exactly the same thing. left turns ok, right hard. there is a grease fitting on the rudder assembly under the gas tank area. that did the trick. turns great both ways now. i bet this will fix the problem.

The grease fittings were only put on in latter years. Does anyone know the year?
