In the for sale section, Brian Miller mentioned that because he had to go buy a new pair of work boots (Red Wings) he needed to turn down the purchase of a prop. I commented that although the Red Wings were a expensive boot, it is the finest made and if divided over the life is actually a economical boot. This reminded me when in 1990 I had to go get a pair of steel toes because of a new job. I ended up with Red Wings because they were and are the only one who makes a AA width. The first store I went into was the one that everyone at the plant went to and remember being greeted by the shoe salesman who asked me my shoe size. I told him 10 1/2 AA and he proceeded to tell me that work boots weren't made in narrow widths and I didn't know my own shoe size. I replied that I had dealt with a narrow foot all my life (38 years) and knew it was a problem and that my foot was a AA and in some shoes a AAA. He then told me why they weren't made in narrow widths!! Per this salesman, he stated that statisticly only very wealthy people have narrow feet and because the wealthy didn't need to do any manual labor, the narrow work boots weren't made!! I told him that I was by no means a millionaire and that all I wanted was a pair of steel toed AA work boots! He didn't believe me until he measured my foot, looked several times at the measuring scale and then told me he couldn't help me. I ended up at Red Wing and am glad I did. I of coarse also probably ruined the other salesman's day or week!

Brian, It was just bad timing that you needed new boots and couldn't get the Acme 540 but do read my thread as it may make you feel better!

I believe the guy who had the theory about narrow feet. I'm at the opposite end of the scale, 10EEE. It allows me to barefoot well, but I can't afford the gas.

Gary,
I saw it too on ebay. He only wanted the engine. Did it sell? I didn't watch it.

John, Thanks. Been sick off and on...but I'll live. Also finishing up my LAST boat project...And I mean LAST. Not a Correct Craft but I'll post some pics on the Off Topic section when I can get my wife to go with me to the lake and snap a few (in the water).
Couple more weeks and I will start my new bus driver job.I never did get any tips or look out fors from ya. I guess it doesn't matter now...I'll soon find out. I did get to ride with some of the drivers on their routes before school let out, so I have and idea what to expect. Wish me luck!

Well now I really feel bad. As I remember it we played phone tag a bit and then put the talk off. Sorry. It did get very busy here thru June and July with our summer work camp program. Then we took off for Tennessee for 2 weeks then North Carolina for a week. But all that being said...it is no excuse for us not taking the time to talk and for that I apologise. Just checked my history and found that the last time you e-mailed me was 5-1. Where did the summer go? Will talk to you next week so I can find out how it all went. BTW...my underground partner from the phone company is also starting as a school bus driver this year. In fact yesterday was his first day of training.

Sorry to hear about your "last" project. Everyone on here knows how skilled you are and have enjoyed you posts and pictures. Hope the reason is "time" related not "health" related.

John,

Your buddy is going to get alot of training! We had people from the Government train us in pre and post tripping our busses. I won't go into detail but, They told us the military found pictures and drawings of some of our schools when they raided some of their camps. Also a bunch or radios were stolen (whole trailer full).(I can't remember where they where stolen from) These are the exact kind that are used on school busses.
By the way, these aren't secrets I'm posting on the internet. They want us all to know so we can keep our eyes and ears open.

Talked to him today and his head is spinning. But they did get him behind the wheel so he liked that. In Florida they trained us in house 'cause the school district is so big. Very good very detailed. Polk Country even has State testers on staff so we got the CDL, P and School bus endorsment in house at the same time.
