| i love the older boats (1965-1979) but mainly want one for wakeboarding. do any of these older boats throw a big wake or are they mainly for skiing? have two obsessed kids that want to be pulled everyday! |

I would think you could get a respectable wake out of a Freeport, Marauder, Southwind all of which are of decent size ~20'

This subject has been gone over in the past on this forum. The entire 80's run of the 2001 SN are hugely sought after by the wakeboard community. They throw an awesome wake without weight and it gets even better with weight. The later 70's SN are just as good but you may need to add weight. Those boats were smaller and lighter than the 2001's. Not sure if the 60's boats would be to your liking. They are even smaller and lighter than the 70's models and you would start to get into serious space constraints with them.

My '78 throws a pretty nice wake even when not weighted, it's a pretty steep wake, & a VERY narrow wake, so your kids will have no problem hitting waketowakes. Without any extra weight in the boat, besides a driver & a spotter, I can easily get 5-7 ft of air consistently behind my boat.

I love the old boats too. My $.02 would be to stick with an 82-89 if you are seeking an older boat for wakeboarding. Bigger than most of the boats from previous years; affordable; simple boats, not too hard to find parts; and very coveted as wakeboard boats. BKH ------------- Livin' the Dream |

This is the view from my 79 going about 28 mph or around 2800 rpms. If I turn up less rpms and speed, the wake gets alot taller as more of the boat ass is in the water. Should be fine for wakeboarding, but others would know more than me. Brian

wow- thanks so much for the info- so far i have been told to look at the barefoot nautique 2001 editions (82-89's)...just not quite the old classic look i was going for, but may just have to go that route for the wake. thanks again...

You can defiantly get a good wake out of an old boat. like said above I have a 72 marauder and it has an amazing wake. I have been told by some reliable sources that I have a 50,000 dollar wake!
