MY 81 nautique has been leaking a bit tried tighting and thought I had it to tight the shaft was cool but the box was fairly warm I could still touch it and hold on to it is this normal now have it only hand tight but going to go ahead and order some packing from skidim wondering what was the best kind to use or what youall are using thanks for the info

if you have the xtra cash, buy a pss dripless..if not but the gortex..much better than the standard wax rope..had no problems yet with mine

Hey Monk,
I just did mine. Got the 3/16" x 24" Gore-Tex from skidim. IIRC it was about $10 and I have plenty left over. There has been debate on the site about the correct size and number of layers needed. For what it is worth, I used 3 layers of the 3/16" on the 1" shaft and it is working like a champ.
