Can somebody help me understand what the Ford 351 Commander Engine is? What does that mean? Is it a PCM? Was "Commander" the company who marinized it? How is it different from other Ford 351s? What parts are Identical? Is the comprabale automotive engine the Windsor or the Cleveland?
Thanks,
James

The commander from what everyone has told me is a PCM. Commander was the name of the company possibly PCM that did the marine conversion. It is a 351 Windsor and not a 351 M (or modified or cleveland- goes by many names). Most parts are the same other than the ignition which is a mechanical advance only with points and the cap is different as well. These ignition parts need to be ordered from the dealer or a marine supplier; ie autozone parts will be wrong for your ignintion. Other than that the parts are the same- check rotation though. Also use autolite plugs.
