Could someone please tell me the procedure for changing transmission fluid in a PCM PowerPlus 1.23:1 transmission?

The owners manual just says "take it to your dealer". The problem with that is:
1. the closest dealer is 4 hours away
2. I'm stubborn and like to do my own work

Is there a drain plug or do you have to suck the fluid out of the dipstick hole? Are there any filters to change or screens to clean out?

Thanks,

Suck the fluid out the dipstick hole. I usually just use a turkey baster, but the PCM tranny may not have a large enough fill hole. If not, then buy a cheap pump (drill motor operated or other type) at the marine store or whereever.

Change the fluid, operate the tranny, then change it again for best results.

I agree with David F. My boat has the PCM 1.23:1 and I change my own fluid. There is a drain plug in the bottom, but it is almost impossible to get to, there is no way to put a pan under to catch the oil, and I have been told they are prone to leaking once they have been removed.

I tried using the low-cost hand pumps from an automotive store, but didn't have much luck. I finally bought one of those top-side vacuum pumps and it works great. I got the Marina-Pro for about $40. It came with some thin tubing that was easy to work down to the bottom of the tranny.

You will never get all of the oil out. Just measure what you take out and add the same amount.

Something to remember: With the PCM 1.23/1, you check the fluid level (with engine off) by just inserting the dipstick to the first rubber o-ring. Do not fully seat the dipstick.
