Hey Guys,

Do any of you have any experience replacing the rear seal on a Johnson Raw Water Pump?

Engine is an Indmar Marinization of a Ford 315W. The pump is crank driven, and leaking pretty bad from the rear. I'm ordering a seal from SkiDim tomorrow.

I'm looking for an overview of the process before I begin (so I don't screw anything up). I can't find any info online so I thought I'd ask here.

Here's a few picks of the pump.

Thanks.

Joe

Joe, It would be the same as any seal. If you haven't done one before don't worry as it is simple. The old one is bad so you can just pry it out. Clean up the surface on the housing where the OD of the seal mates. I like to put some gasket compound on the OD such as Permatex or aviation gasket. Press the new seal in making sure it goes in straight. You don't need a press as a vice or even a block of wood and a hammer will work. Be fore putting the pump shaft back in, check the surface where it mates the seal. It should be smooth and no groves.

Thanks Pete,

And no... I've never really replaced a seal like that. I figured it would be self evident when I dug into it, but it never hurts to ask.

Thanks again.
