I talked to Vince at skidim about this earlier this year and he didn't recomend doing it. It does list pretty good and the one person that he know that had reversed the rotation bought a 1.23:1 pcm tranny a year later to counter act the problem, it helped put not as much as needed.

Why do you want to change rotation anyway? There are several places to get reverse rotation parts and complete engines at reseasonable prices? Or are you one of those guys that want to use car parts to blow up your boat?

.I can get a good deal on a newer pcm engine. And no ,I am not one of those guys who uses automotive type parts on a boat engine.
The parts for a reverse roatation engine are a little more exspensive,it is cheaper for me to buy this "PCM MARINE" standard rotation engine from a friend.I talked to
vince today about it,he said the same thing u did.I also taked with another person who workks for a correct craft dealer that did it to his personal boat, and he had no problems.Other than getting use to the way it pulls in reverse.

I guess just keep in mind the additional cost of items you will have depending what comes with the block. With a standard long block you will have to use your circ pump, dist, and starter which are not enter changbble from RH to LH rotation plus the new prop and tranny rebuild it all adds up and that's what changed my mind from doing it.

The tranny turns either way, just change the direction of the pump, the raw water pump you flip over. All other stuff you chage as previously discussed.

Im thinking about just rebuilding what i have.Ive figured everything up and the most cost effective way is to just use what i have .I plane on rebuilding the trans this winter anyway.I'm figuring if my blocks ok,ill just rebuild it .

I was told a long time ago that the 1:1 transmission was in the forward gearing, it is geared lower in reverse.

What is special about a GT-40p head and are they available for a Ford 289?

The gt-40p head was made (dont quote me)for the 302 exployers.I picked up a set 2 years ago for my other nautique.I got mine from a ford motorsports dealer here locally.I paid 452.00 for the set, brand new, completely assembled.Im not a big ford fan ,so i dont know if they fit on a 289.I'm more knowlegable with the chevy's.I know on the 351 you have to drill the bolt holes bigger on them.On the 302 they bolt right up,dont know about a 289.Sorry

Referring to the tranny direction change, I did it to one of my 71c transmissions and like SS 201 said all you do is turn the front oil pump 180 degrees on the outside of the tranny then you can run it the opposite direction. It's kind of weird because of the sound reverse makes but it works fine. Read this in the manual.

Stupid question.

Why are marine engines reverse rotation?

nautiques are the only single engine company that i know of that do this. on a twin engine they usually have a standard and a reverse.

Just be sure that the crank is ground in the correct direction, othewise you will have problems, you will need the correct crank seals as well. The seals have directional vanes and if you use the wrong ones it will leak. Also comp cams does have a mild cam upgrade from the stock cam profile. It isn't an off the self item though, but does add a lot of HP.

also you will have to re-jet the carb or get a bigger carb if you want to get the most out of the cam and head upgrade.
