The overnight lows predicted for the next couple days are just about or below freezing, boat is still on the lift so last night drained my shower, heater and whatever else I could just to be safe. The small (+/- 3/4") HW supply line from the block going to the shower would not come off at the block male barbed press connection despite pulling with great pressure and some of the other hoses were pretty difficult as well.

Silicon based Vacuum Grease. Dow Corning.

I would think that you could also use a little plumbers grease too. It's made for water environments. That stuff is awesome and doesn't have anything that would harm seals, gaskets and anything else that's rubber or a rubber byproduct. A little goes a long way just like Gotta stated. I use it all the time on my pool pump seals and gaskets and makes removing them again so much easier.

Quinn, I've equipped all my heater lines with 5/8" quick disconnect couplings. These can be found at Home Depot or Ace. They are brass and work wonders for winterizing. As an added bonus I have a length of 5/8" hose with the right couplings on it to bypass the heater if needed and another length with a funnel on it for winterizing the heater. CQ, somebody had a how-to on this back in the MBO days on that forum but I can't find after a quick look around but one of the guys connected his shower input hose to the heater core using the quick disconnects in order to use the shower pump to pull AF through the core, then through the shower. Two accessories winterized for for the price of one! Thanks everybody for the ideas, Joel I will definitely take a look at those Quick Disconnects, sure would simplify that annual winterize process.

Alternatively, I used 5/8 garden hose fittings. Alternated their direction for an easy removal and connect together for a bypass.
