I know I should be putting up Christmas lights or maybe even shopping, but playing with boats is so much more fun! My son, Cole, helped me mock up a Corvette hardtop option for my Reinell Jetabout to check for seat locations and windshield fabrication. I think this project is going to take the "easy" way out with a Merc motor instead of grafting in Seadoo power like the last finned boat I did. Hoping to get the major fabrication done by the end of January, so we can start painting in Feb. Lots of work left to do, but it sure beats sitting in traffic around the Mall!
Lets see some progress (or in-progress) picts of other winter projects.

Brian, You sure do come up with the interesting projects!! I wish I had the time to undertake the ambitious. I enjoy seeing you getting your son involved.
I was just over at the fiberglassics site and looked in the membership listing. I couldn't find you. I thought you were a member? You should be! Of coarse, with your wood projects, will they let you in? I'm being facetious! The ACBS will let you in with pre 69 plastic and of coarse wood. Actually you can be a ACBS member and not even own a boat.

Pete- My wife has other descriptions besides "interesting". My son loves to help out in anyway possible with the boats. In fact, he is going to join ACBS as a Junior Member this year. He is 7 years old and had a blast this past summer learing to ski behind our wooden Tolly. Not may kids his age (or mine, for that fact) will be able to remember fondly learing to ski with Dads old wood boat!
I am not sure why I don't show up on the Fiberglassic member list. I have 4 years left on a 5 year membership. I mostly hang out on the Northwest section (FGNW) but also check the main site several times a week. We are lucky here in the Seattle area. Our ACBS and FGNW chapters have quite a few joint events. The wood boat guys here are not quite as exclusive as some areas in the country. Just a bunch of people who love boats and enjoy using them!
A funny story from last summer. We took my Glassmagic jet boat to the Sandpoint, Id. ACBS show in September. I called ahead and sent pictures to make sure it would be OK. When I was registering, the lady running the booth said "Oh, you have THE plastic boat." We had a great time and by the end of the weekend, had taken all of the local ACBS board for rides. It all comes down to respect. I can respect the time, money, and effort involved in restoring a Hacker triple. If I had the means, I would probably try one. But until then, they just need to respect that some of us are starting with "affordable" projects to hone some skills.

Fins, My wife says the same things, although she was impressed when we came home with our Mustang. Must be because she likes inboards.
I rescued a Manta Ray at the beginning of the summer. I sold it in September when we bought the Mustang. It sold the 1st week I advertised it on Fiberglassics. The guy drove to Maine from CT with his girlfriend. His girlfriend meets my wife and says, "this is the 2nd POS he's bought this month". My wife thought it was pretty funny, although she wasn't about to talk badly of the Manta Ray because she was happy to see it go down the driveway.

That’s great. My wife actually calls them POS#1, POS#2,... Only after they are done and usable (read that, she can go for a ride with white pants and not sit on a towel) does she call the boats by their name.

Brian, Keep up the good work with Cole and hopefully he takes over for his dad someday.
My 22 year old son is currently learning to fiberglass (Not right now as I'm sure he's still in bed!!) This repair is on snowmobile shroud #2 and of coarse a project he had all summer to do but waits. Now the lakes are frozen, snow is on the ground and the trails are open! I hope that one of these years he gets his priorities in line. I did the other sleds shroud after he rolled it but I gave up after I found this one under the tarp this past Labor day weekend. The repair should be interesting but learning is doing. I hope he remembers to put the hardener in the epoxy!
