Greetings to the list. I'm a new member and just purchased a 1992 SN a few weeks ago. The previous owner is a friend of mine so I knew the history of the boat. It only had 178 hours on it. The boat has a standard 351 Ford with a 4 bbl. Holly carb. I took the boat out for a ride last weekend to check everything out. The boat ran great. However, either the fuel gauge is faulty or the engine drinks gas. When you cruise at 2000 rpm (22 mph by GPS) what is the GPH you can expect. I'll be using the boat on Lake Hartwell, GA if any one is from that area. Thanks in advance. Bill

Someone else tried to come up with an answer to this a few months back. I do not recall ever seeing a good answer.
A tank will last us a week or so with the wife skiing about 45 minutes every morning and an hour or so crusing every day. On the other hand, a busy afternoon may force a couple of runs to the fuel dock.
The economy of the 351 cannot be compared to the 4-cylinder in the grocery getter, although it does parallel my truck with the same engine for for fuel/time. These things were built with one purpose in mind, more horses!

I fill mine up every time i go out to keep a check on fuel consumption.I have a 84 2001 ,with a worn out 351 in it.I usally get around 3 to 3.5 gallons per hour while we are wakeboarding,thats with about 1400lbs in it.I have converted mine to fuel injection.When i ran a carb i got about 4 to 4.5 gph.I ran the edelbrock 4309 rather than the holley.I really dont care for the holleys to much.

The general rule I've heard for fuel consumption is HP/10 at WOT. At optimum cruise speed(generally the highest RPM that keeps you out of the 4 barrels in the carb), it's about 60% of that.
So if it's rated at 250 hp, expect it to burn 25 GPH running at WOT, which people usually don't do for that long with a ski boat, or 14-15 at 33-3400 rpm while you're skiing.
