got a new ski jacket and Sirius Sat radio. 'Course I have no idea how to install it. Read the directions out of desperation (usually never read 'em) may as well been in Latin. Got a history of Cypress Gardens...awesome show ski pictures. Bunch of other cool stuff.
Best gift? Sitting at Candelight service with Patti on Christmas Eve.
Hope everyone here had as good a Christmas as I did!

I got a some calls and emails from my CC buddies for Christmas. I also received a box of Coca Cola stuff, which I collect. The old Correct Craft Script and the Coca Cola script are very similar.

I also got snow

And, in our extended family's name draw, I drew my dad (now 85)and was able to give him an artist's hand drawn picture of a B17, just like he rode in 1944-45.

I got a candy-cane style Masterline slalom rope. Sounds silly but I've always wanted one but have hesitated to cough up the 70.00 for a ski rope myself. Now I have one! Hopefully I can use some of the other sections besides 15 off this summer...

Sometimes you have to think outside the box a bit. I've wanted some LED tail lights, just to add a little bling to my trailer. Of course being the tight wad I am and because those would just be a silly, pointless luxury I would never spend my money on, I got an inexpensive set off ebay, had them delivered, gave them to my wife and said "here, I got a Christmas present that you or the kids can give me". They ended up under the tree from Santa. So I did (sort of) get one CC gift. Last year the kids gave me an ensign flag which was nice, that I proudly fly.

We're getting rain!!! Thanks to anyone who sent a prayer this way.

If I had been told as a kid that I'd be beyond happy to get rain for Christmas, I'd have said they were nutz; but I have my shop door wide open so I can hear it. LOL

Happy New Year All

I will take both, coal for heat when I come in from playing in the snow.

I got a new lap top and an internet card for the lap top, so I can check CCF anywhere I go as along as I have cell service. I will be able to post pics of the trip to GL as it's happening this year.

Wow
I got the same thing as M3Fan, the flu. Mine only lasted one day, yesterday, but it was the day my family was snowboarding. I'm on the couch, and I keep getting phone calls from my buddy and my brother about how much fun they are having in the lodge bar. But, I was able to catch up on some DVD's that I've wanted to watch.
I did get a GPS unit that I can use in the boat. I am curious to see how accurate my speedos are.
BufBFN, congrats on the rain.

Hey Guys,
My wife got me an http://www.indoboard.com/ - InDo balance board . It's great for working on balance and core strength for both water and snow sports. I had a minor tear to my MCL barefooting this summer (among other trips to the ER) and it's great for rehabbing that. Its also just a lot of fun.

I also got a http://www2.oregonscientific.com/shop/product.asp?cid=0&scid=77&pid=709 - ATC2K Waterproof Action Cam from my sister (lilkbags). It takes a 2 GB SD card and will record up to 60 mins. of 640x480 AVI video at 30 fpm. It won't replace my other camera but can get wet down to 10 ft. I've already strapped it to the kids as they sled in the back yard. I will be wearing it skiing on Saturday. It comes with a handlebar mount (for biking) that should work great on the boom for shooting head-on video of barefooting.

You know, I saw that camera a while back and made a mental note to buy one, but I never did. I'll have to snag that to get some slalom footage for my site this summer. It would also be really cool to get footage of a deep-water footing start from the first person point of view.

I got an indo board last xmas but after a couple weeks I lost interest in it. Some of the more advanced techniques, such as using it "longways" rather than side-to-side are alarmingly dangerous. Be careful that that thing doesn't end your season rather than helping it.

Quinner, Brad planned it that way, didn't you know? So, yes, definitely tip one for me. Sorry, I cant make it, but I'll certainly be there in spirit(s).

I've got a college friend who is in Chicago. He never skied as a youth but some time after we graduated he told me he had taken it up. I dont communicate with him too often, but last time I did (a few years ago) he told me he (and some investor buddies) had bought an old sand pit or something and turned it into one of those slalom lake residential areas, with like 8-10 houses around the pond/course. (He said he got tired of getting run off of lakes with his course all the time. Man I wish I could go buy a lake when encountering that problem) Its about an hour or so north of the city. You ever hear of that. I keep thinking of calling him and telling him to join in the CCF fun, but never have. I know he was running a CC last time we spoke. Dont know if he is into the boat side of it as much as we are, he may focus entirely on the higher level skiing side of things. If I recall correctly, he had gotten quite good. May have to try to track him down. Just in case its a small world kind of thing, his name is Fred Leiner...ring a bell?

Tim,

Thanks for the repost, think I got it fixed. You know, when you're old, this electronic stuff doesnt come quite so easy.

Make the phone call, Larry. Both CQ and M3Fan are about an hour north of Chicago... the place might be right in their backyard.

Larry,

There is a place just like you described in Lakemore, Volo or Island Lake area, about 10 or 15mins from me, went there once for a tournament quite a few years ago, the site is awesome, 2 seperate lakes and only a couple houses at the time. The only one I am aware of in our area so who knows, now when you visit there will be several places to ski!

BTW, isn't it going to be harder to do a tumble turn without losing your walker now?

Hey Larry; Happy birthday man...us older guys gotta stick together in the face of all this abuse. That was a low blow about the walker CQ. You too will get old one of these years.
Loved the video. Very smooth moves right up to the end. Only question...are those some kind of googles you have on? No bi-focal jokes guys. I foot in my contacts all the time. It is cool to be able to see what you're doin'.

So have a great day tomorrow. After you get done visiting those Chicago you gotta come down here.

I don't mind the abuse. If I dish it out I guess I gotta take it too.   Actually the whole walker thing has worked out pretty well ever since I mounted the little pontoons on the legs. But Chris is right, the tumble turns can be tricky.

Yea John, they are googles. I used to wear hard contacts and would loose them constantly so I went to the goggles. After I went to soft contacts, they didnt come out so easy, but they fill with water and I cant see, so I go the dorky route and wear the goggles.

Tim, Yes, that's a good clip, but I gotta say, I get a bigger chuckle out of this one of Keith, when he decides to carry on a converstion with us in the boat and looses focus on the task at hand. Surely this one is going to make his hightlights video that he is working on.

Chris, I tracked down my buddy today. Good to touch base with him, we probably talked for 30 minutes. Yes, thats his project you visited. I introduced him to CCFan, hopefully he'll join in the fun and he can get together with you and the other locals at some point.

Someone was telling me about that place once, then I forgot to google earth it and completely forgot the location/intersections. Where was it quinner?

Hollywood,

I tried to google myself and could not locate it exactly, it was in the general vicinity of west of the Volo auto museum, near River Road and Lily Lake road I think?

Larry,

You need to hook us up with your buddy, the site was really nice, all sand and clean water.

Gary,

Just read in the paper this AM that 104 buildings damaged in Kenosha, including 27 that were destroyed. Ice is gone, our lake is now open water, we pulled the hockey nets Fri night otherwise they would be fishing nets right now, that has never happened in the 11yrs I have been here, crazy.

Not sure knowing where it is will do a lot of good as it is obviously a private situation. In fact, not even all the residents can ski there. There are 20 owners now, 10 or 12 have ski/boat priveleges, the others can have small/no-wake fishing boats. I'll check with Fred to get the location. He did mention one of the houses there is (maybe was??) for sale though. Would be a pretty nice set up.

There are more than enough lakes around us to ski, not interested in that. Would like to drive by that's all.

I was talking to a guy near Fox Lake who said he got totally "snubbed" by your friend's group Larry.

Guys, it's called Clear Lake. The Clear Lake ski club. You turn right at the McDonalds in Island Lake off 176. Nish Rd?

Larry, ask Fred how his boat is doing.

"Fred's new boat:

The ski club must approve all boats on the lake. Fred presented an example of a boat he was shopping for. It is in excess of 30 feet, and has a cabin suitable for temporary residence. OK, its a yacht! There was discussion to determine the club's views on the boat. Fred then moved that he be allowed to place such a boat on the lake with the stipulation that it will not be operated such as to form a wake, and that it will be docked near his lot so as to remain somewhat hidden from view. Additionally the decision to allow the boat will be re-visited in two years. The motion was seconded and approved by a 4 to 3 majority. The absentee ballots were then added and recounted by hand and the final outcome was 6 for, 3 against, and 1 abstain. Motion passed"

Hollywood, that's two now. Go easy on my friend, please. There's not a nicer guy in the world. I have encouraged him to join us and you're picking on him already. I'm sure he's reading this stuff by now. You know people gotta be on here at least a week before they start getting picked on.

Larry, I apologize to you and Fred if he is lurking. I did not mean to be picking on him. It may have come across that way but I don't think I said anything negative towards their club. I said the guy I met said it was pretty exclusive, that's all. I'd like to meet him and anyone else over there. I look forward to cruising by in spring and peeping that dream setup they have!

If I had a private lake, it would have one membership- mine, so I guess I can't blame them. We do need to keep in touch with Chicagoland skiers, regardless of where they ski. There's only like 15 of us so we've got to network as much as possible.

I have a friend with a ski-pond in his back yard about 10 miles outside of town here, complete with slalom course and a 93 mastercraft that has never been registered. Its shallow and narrow with trees on both sides, has to be a serious wind to even put up a ripple. No waiting for your allotted half hour on a saturday morning there. Him and his brother ski the course just about every week night and most saturdays and sundays late april through late october both are in thier early fifties and ski very strong. Not a bad way to live...
