Due to a slow work day and too cold temps that are keeping me away from the mountain, (jbear wind chills of minus 40 degrees)I thought I would try to put some pics together as last year a few people inquired about Sebago Lake in Maine. Here are a few pictures from the area. It's a great place.
Beautiful lake with clean water
Usually calm in the morning
Fryes Leap
Nice sand bars

Bruce,
looks good, couple questions.
is it bedlam on weekends, if so starting at about what time?
is public access no problem?
is there a place to stay on, how about near, the water?
------------- _____________ “So, how was your weekend?” “Well, let me see…sun burn, stiff neck, screwed up back, assorted aches and pains….yup, my weekend was great, thanks for asking.”

Larry, not bedlam, but pretty darn busy on weekend afternoons. Sun up to about 10:00 am is great. You pretty much have the lake to yourself. After that it gradually gets busy and from 1:00 to 5:00 I stay off the lake. Between the normal breeze that kicks up in the afternoon and all the rollers, it's no fun for ski boats. Best thing to do is use the lake until about lunch time and then find a place to hang out until about suppertime.
There is public access and some private access that you can pay for, which is sometimes better as it is not as crowded.
There are places to stay that are near the lake, but not right on the lake that aren't too expensive. Places on the lake usually book up early are are pretty expensive.

Larry,
We've rented quite a few places up there over the years. Here's a good source for info: http://www.krainin.com/kre4a2.cottagesbylake.htm - http://www.krainin.com/kre4a2.cottagesbylake.htm
That is a fun area to be on the water.
Sebago, Brandy Pond & Long Lake all connect for miles & miles of boating.
There's not many other places like that in the N.E.!

I thought I'd bring this thread back. If any CCFs are interested in a mini reunion type event on Sebago Lake this summer (2010), or just coming up with your family and having a minimal get together like meeting at a sandbar, I'd be happy to organize or help.
I'm on the quiet side of the lake. Within 3 miles of my camp, mostly within 1 mile, there are numerous rental cottages, 2 campgrounds, 2 marinas and 3 boat launches. There are 3 stores and 3 restaurants. I have access to a hall that has a kitchen and seats 150. It's a great place and we usually don't promote it, but would welcome CCF. There's more water here than you can see in a weekend.

Come on John!! You once lived in a colder part of the country! I'll bet you even remember the days back when no one even knew what a "wind chill" was!
Did you through out your long underwear and work Carharts when you retired and moved?
Bruce,
Thanks for the pictures. Very nice to see different parts of the country.

Sebago Lake Campground in Standish and Nason's Beach in Sebago. I believe Nasons is only open to day trippers. Their sites are rented out by the season, but it is one of the best access points on the lake if you want to go there for the day.

They've got excellent beaches for the back lot cottages, but places to keep your boat probably vary from place to place depending on what each property owner has arranged for themselves. I don't think there are any rental slips or moorings out there, but Krainin would know.
If you don't have a boat, I'd be happy to give you a tour of the lake.

I thought I would throw a few pictures from our vacation a few years ago. Not too many pictures of the lake. We stayed at one of the campgrounds and had an awesome time. I would love to go back there again!

Possibly ossipee. They take that boat all over New England. It's a good friend of mines boat. They are frequently up in Wells, Maine with it. It's been to Sebago every summer since 06 for a week. They also take it to Sunapee and Winnipisake (spelling?) each summer.
It's a fun boat. 28ft advantage party cat with a 496 HO. Seats 16 people and still does 55. Unload it and drain some fuel and it hits 67. Also because its a cat it handles chop beautifully.
I believe it's possibly for sale also if anyone knows someone interested I could find out more info for them...sorry for the thread hyjacking
