All Chrysler engine paint that seems to be available through retailers is for 69 and above (true blue color vs correct blue/green color). Does anybody have a source for quarts of original color 68 engine paint? (Almost looks the same as Pontiac)
Also should exhaust and intake manifolds be silver or blue for 1968 318 ?

Dave, Everything excluding the carb and distributor/HT wires would have been painted the blue/green. This includes the hoses and clamps. I've even seen the belts painted!!

Im a big mopar nut. Mopar performance makes a blue green color that may be closer to what your looking for. Its in their high temp engine paints and it was used on 67 hipo big blocks and I think also on 64 big blocks Im not sure of all the applications all of our cars are orange or true blue engines. Check out your local chrysler dealership and they should have a catalogue for you to check out.

I'm not sure about Chrysler colors,they have several but check this paint out,I have had very good luck with these paints.The quarts can be sprayed but on cast iron you can brush it on and see no brush marks,see my engine in my signature line below.It's been done almost 20 yrs,where does the time go?

Bingo! Phats is all over it. The color you need to most closely match the original is Dupli-Color 1619, Chrysler Green, so don't let the name or cap color fool you. It's more blue than green however and matches the big block color Zack is talking about on the Mopar site, and is what's shown below in these Mopar marine pictures which are all the same color but which all may look different because of the camera/light etc, but they are all the same paint. When this color fades over the years it starts to look more light blue. You can get it thru Napa or other Dupli-Color dealers, but it's not normally on the shelf so you may need to get them to order it.
I know you didn't need 4 picts but I do love that color. And look on ebay for A&A marine for the replacement manifold or valve cover decals. The manifold ones are harder to find but I did recently pick up a set, but they say 235 and not 210. Quickest and cheapest 25 hp I ever picked up.

Bruce, Marshall's boat is actually the middle two picts above, the first one early on after we pulled the fiberglass floor pan and removed foam from the exh channels (installed copper pipe), and he had just detailed the engine. The next pict, third one down, is his with the 273 dressed up a bit and the fiberglass floor pan installed back in.

Thanks Reid. I thought I was right. I spotted the 273 valve covers on the third motor those all look awsome. I wish my boat was a mopar:( that would be the ultmate. Id seriously consider later on swapping a BBchrysler into my boat if I ever found a complete setup for a deecent price.

Phat Zach, good eye on the 273 Commandos. But how are you so up on that and the other vintage Mopar stuff if you're only about to turn 21?
Turns out that bottom picture above is of a BB Mopar which was a failed attempt and the entire engine-trans package just as you see it, is still sitting on a pallet and IS available at a decent price. Only drawback, and that's according to who you ask, is that it's only a 413, but they had a great history for ruggedness and racing. I can't recall what boat you have, but this engine is an original Chrysler Marine reverse rotation. I bought it as a running engine 5 yrs ago and was told it had never been rebuilt, only heads services, but did burn some oil. So it would need a rebuild. It looks like you man.

Im a mopar nut reid. I have the 67 satellite that can be seen in the hotrod thread. My dad has a 70 cuda 340 and a 69 coronet R/T 440 ramcharger hood. I built the 360 in the plymouth and I just built the 351 in the boat so a BB sway wont be any time soon haha. Were just working on a 72 dart swinger for my little bro numbers matching orange 318 car and I will be going through that motor to freshen it up and maybe some cam and 360 heads with a 4bbl. If anyone has mopar questions ask me haha. We could throw max wedge heads on that 413 with a dual carter crossram manifold:).

What's cpes? I'm planning on using exterior grade coated with resin. I'm planning to start working on it soon. I think we're going to have an early spring. As soon as Eric Levine completes my tranny overall, the work will begin.
I've used Mothers aluminum cleaner on my pole and it shines it up good.

Bruce, I'm glad you asked about the CPES. I use it for the first coat on the wood. It is a penetrating epoxy that is naturally thin (low viscosity) that isn't reduced with solvents. Great stuff!!

Gary, when you say fiberglass floor on the 77 are you referring to the thin layer over foam and plywood? Marshall's above, shown in the two middle photos above, has a thin fiberglass sub-floor, and then the 2-piece molded non-skid-pattern fiberglass floor "pan?" that layed on top. I believe they did this from just 68-70 and was the best thing ever in my opinion. There was no wood in the floor at all and this was on Mustangs particularly.

Reid,my floor was thin fiberglass over foam.I would imagine the foam provided much of the support for the floor but since I don't intend to re-foam I think plywood is the way to go.I am using only cpes on the plywood and nothing else.From what I've read,encapsulating the wood in epoxy or resin might not be the best thing to do.I know some of you have been re-doing these boats for a long time and would know first hand if this is true.I've played with boats for some time but only recently got into boats like these with wood that has no way to dry out once it gets wet.I have another 77 mustang that has never been re-floored and even though the stringers and other wood pieces are starting to soften in spots,it ain't bad for 30 years. The lags are solid in the motor mounts but I had to replace the plywood around the ski pylon so it's only a matter of time. Farmer

Farmer, i keep a close eye on the lake i live on which has 20 or so CC's on it, i would say approximately 25% are left uncovered with the plugs in, these are the boats that rot, they are not taken care of properly, over the years you can tell the boats that were in heated storage, alwys dried after use, always washed after each use, its not a mystery or maybe it is on why these boats rot. Once you perform the repairs as in depth as these boats require you have a tendecy to be a little more careful on how you take care of them, I guarentee if i did my own floors as extensively as these boats require i sure will not leave it out in the elememts, i will pay extra attetion to taking care of the boat as it should. there are guys out there plain and simply that just do not take care of thier boats, why? I dont know, maybe its money, maybe its lazyness,
