So my neighbor and friend made just about every newspaper in Chicago today, appearantly his son Isaac was late for his tennis lesson and Bob decided that flying him there was the best option, taking off from our lake, his plane is equipped with ski's and he regularly is flying in and out of the lake, anyways he landed on a golf course next to the tennis club and caused quite a stir. BTW, Bob also has a really cool Hydrodyne with a 200hp OB and many of his kid's have skied with the Aquanut's.

Listening to the interview on the link cracked me up, I could totally see Bob thinking "what's the big deal", actually I tend to agree.

Haha, thats great. Sorry to hear that everyone got so uptight...I agree with him that if it was a ballon or copter noboby would have thought a thing about it. I'm sure he broke some rules, but hopefully the FAA won't revoke his license.

I used to think it was cool showing up to school in my dads yellow 70' cuda let alone an air plane haha. Thats stupid. They probably caused more of a stirr with a plane on a flatbed going down the road than just letting him take off from the course. BTW pipers are sweet old planes. I loved to go to the local fly in drve in's at our airport and check the planes out when I was a kid. The snow he landed on didnt belong to anyone ;)

sounds like he fits right in, every story reminds of a story, we were in tampa racing boats and i coaxed the helicopter pilot to fly under the tampa bay bridge after we tipped a few, he did and he got in a *************** load of trouble, i havnt seen him since

Chris, Do you remember when Chicagoland airport was just across Milwaukee ave. from that golf course? I took flying lessons and soloed there way back. No one complained about the planes then!

Reminds me of my first hour up that I thought was going to be a demo flight. My instructor was a WWII vet and I think was a little shell shocked. I found out that when nervous he would stutter. We are coming in on final and he tells me to land the plane! He then starts saying ppppppp-pull back. Well, I thought the struts were going to come through the wings (low wing Piper) and we did bounce quite high! He ended up taking over for me!

Pete,

Don't remember that Airport, probably before I lived in the North Burbs. You ever think maybe the instructor was fine prior to flying with you?? DOH!!

Last night on the news "from the airway to the fairway", looks like Bob just got his 15 Minutes of fame! Now we just need to come up with a good nickname for him??

Did anyone happen to see http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/player/popup/?cl=6764062 - this plane on the news? I would have had a heart attack if I was on board. Probably should have never tried to land, but kudos to the pilot for getting back in the air.

I know someone who lives in Peoria Illinois who Would do something like this!! I can appreciate this story, the guy has been around there since before the traffic got real bad, so I think they should give him a strike for the "Grandfathered in" Clause!!

Hey Joel,

How's the Knuckles? Hope you finished your project!

Will try to give you the short version as there is quite a bit to this story. Apparently landing on private property is not illegal, since the Hotel (property owner) was not interested in pressing charges there does not appear to be anything to charge him with. The police had a different take on this and made it into a much larger event in the heat of the moment. To date, other then getting hit with a hefty towing and crane bill, he has not been charged with anything by the FAA or the local authorities.

Gotta love it, still laugh every time I think about this story.

The city of Lincolnshire did end up charging Bob on Tuesday, reckless conduct and endangering the life or health of a child.

What a joke!

I just read it in the Trib! Funny how the cops have to come up with the charges to justify their initial actions! Both charges are a stretch.

I really can't keep from thinking that the police dept. is trying to "save face" here with the goofy charges. If this action backfires on them then it's really going to show that police don't have any common sence! So, endangering the life of his son?? Chris, that would mean your neighbor won't be able to take his son anywhere that involves landing and taking off anyplace other than a airport?? What a waste of tax payer dollars! (your neighbors too!)

I think your right Pete, they are trying to save face. Believe the other thought is if they can make a charge stick the city won't end up picking up the tab for all the crane/flatbed trailer/towing fees that came with the police having the plane removed from private property. As a result of all the publicity several attorney's also offered Bob free Legal Assistance, hopefully it will all work out for him.

Chris, So, the village picked up the moving fees!!! If the Marriot wasn't pressing charges, why didn't he just fly it out? The police must have stopped him?? Sounds like the police were really stumped on this one and acted totally without any forethought. Typical!!

Actually Bob paid however I believe he may be contesting those fees or who is responsible. The Marriott would not allow him to fly out, they did however give him 3 days to remove the plane by other means, the City on the other hand just went ahead and had a towing service remove it immediately even though it was on private property?
