I had rt foot & ankle surgery 4 hrs and 7 procedures it's all over but the cryng. Hi ankle scope found 2 torn tendons that fused together with scare tissue, so they were cut apart. The ankle to top foot ligiment on the
outside of my foot was ruptured so they got one out of a cadaver and installed it with 4
plastic screws. Took a wedge cut from my heel
to move it over & put a 2 in. deck screw in it to hold it in place. Broke and realined my big toe. Cut the top and bottom tendons to my toes 2-5 and put temporary pins (8weeks)
Man - thats all i can read for now -
going to take a pain pill & lay down !

You do not know how much you use your feet until you can't. How long will you be walking with assistance? I was 2 months

Wow. That sounds like some major foot work. What did you do to get to that point? At least the pins are temporary, that way you can "keep it original."

52 yrs. worth of ware & tear baseball, softball kick starting a hundred different motorcycles ect... But the thing that put me over the top was July 4 07 we went out on the lake at the crack of dawn , we forgot a rope I ran back in to get it. I spun the boat around when I got back. I NEVER carry an anchor but the 30 lb. wally world piece iron came loose and it was a direct hit on the outside of my foot /ankle.@ 40 mph If you were within 3 states it was me you heard.
I got a prescription for a "turning leg caddy", It's a life saver EASY to get around.
8 weeks to 3 months out of work.

Man, when you screw up a body part, you don't mess around.
That "turning leg caddy". Is that the thing that looks like a 4 wheel scooter that you kneel the bad leg on? Not the coolest looking thing, but very functional.
I reiterate what behl said, you never respect your feet until you screw one up. I had a blister on my heel caused by distance barefooting. I had to stay off it for 3 months, limping around because I wouldn't use the crutches the doc wanted. I didn't want to explain to the guys, using crutches for a blister!
Good luck, do what the doc tells you.
Remember, you are resting your foot while driving your boat.

I see my future in that surgery list, soccer and basketball beat up my knees and ankles and feet recovery gets slower everytime. This time last year I went up for a block in a volleyball game, when I came down it was on top of the foot of the guy going for the spike. I laughed at the doctor when he told me it would take 9-12 months to recover from a sprained ankle, 12 months into it I am still hoping I can get into a slalom ski this summer, I couldnt do it today. Luckily, I have been able to keep the weight gain "down" to 30 lbs...

Dog and everyone else,
I had the "pleasure" of my first colonoscopy when I was 35. Had another one at 43, after my dad passed away from colo-rectal cancer. I'm a huge advocate of that exam, along with yearly physicals. The PSA test, the reason most guys won't get physicals, can only tell so much. I think the prep for the colo is the tough part. After my last colonoscopy, in the recovery room, the nurse actually asked if I wanted her to pull my finger. She said I couldn't leave till I farted.
Another exam us older, I mean, experienced boaters/skiers should have is a full body dermatology exam. I went in last week, on my birthday, and the doc found a little thing on my lip that he had to remove. It was some precurser to the begining of skin cancer. He said I shouldn't worry, but I should have the exam yearly to keep an eye on things.
Sorry about the speech, but it's pretty important to me.

At my age the doc checks at least twice a year for all the males on my dads side died of prostate cancer including my dad. They have not done colon as often, every 10 years.
Joke: A doc was in the process of doing the colonoscopy and the male patient asked the doc to do him a favor and write his wife a note stating that he did not find his head up there.

A guy goes in for his first proctology exam. As he starts to remove his pants, he asks the doctor, who's standing behind him, "where should I put my pants?" The doctor replies, "you can just fold them up and put 'em next to mine."

Man, Depressing thread!!
Just made an appointment with the orthopedic group this am. Then I see this thread.
I'll join the "Old Bastard" complaint list:
I guess about 40 years of hockey is trying to catch up with me. Something popped in my knee & I haven't skated in three weeks. It's still sore and swollen, so I finally broke down and decided to get it checked-out.
Got my fingers crossed that it'll get better on it's own!

I waited about 5 weeks before I went in to the doctor with my ankle. He comes in takes a look at it, then the x ray, and asks so you did this a couple days ago? I told him it had been a little over a month, then his eyes got real wide and I hear ... Wow, thats not good. Not too reassuring...

in the ankle you can have stress fractures and they will start to heal and show up on an x-ray, then they have to be re-break it to set them correctly not a good situation. You don't have that type of issue with the knee.

20 years ago I had a stress fracture 2 in above were it was scoped. You could see it very well.Late summer and when I had my physical (in sept)my internist x-rayed my ankle he said I have arthridic changes. He wasn't too conserned. At the ortho doc I got a MRI.Got it shot up with a 2 in needle of lanicane / steroid. It didn't hurt at all, but I thought in was going to come out the other side. The shot really helped a lot!The MRI didn't show everything the surgery was to be 2 1/2 hr it lasted 4 1/2 hr Went in a 12:30 got into recovery @ 7:30 pm.
It was done last thurs. todays wed. and I have VERY little pain. Stoped the oxeyconten and perkiset Mon. @ 6:00 pm I'm not supose to put my foot down for anything for 8 weeks and that's a xxxxx hard thing to do.

your suppose to top those killers with a couple beers, you'll wake up a month later and wondered what happened...you gotta read the labels...they say alcohol will intensify.
I feel for you though cause when i broke my little toe it had to be the worst pain ever and i cried like a little girl, something about feet, they are sensitive
