I have an 84 Ski Nautique and the paint finish is old and faded. There are also a few spots where the fiberglass has a cracking appearance. I was thinking about having the boat repainted. Does anyone have a ball park figure for a new paint job?

Robert, I haven't personally painted a boat in quite a few years but I'm sure someone here on the site will be able to give you some idea. It will definatly be a ball park figure because the extent of the gel cracking is a unknown. It can be the major man hours required for a proper paint job and the amount of gel cracking will not be known until the paint is removed. Sounds like someone did a "quick and dirty" to cover up the bad gel.

I push re gel coating fiberglass over painting but that can get very costly because the man hours are more to level and buff out the gel. The prep work is about the same as paint. You would end up with a fiberglass boat again and not something you need to treat like a painted wood boat. Just a re gel would be between 6 and 12K.

What is the condition of the rest of the boat? Where are the cracks you have mentioned? There may be some structural/stringer problems causing the cracks.

Keep us informed and put the boat in or diaries section if you haven't already. You found a great site!!
