Day 1

I drove from South Texas to Northern Minnesota to pick up my new boat. It was a 22 hour drive to get there. Some might think that madness, but I looked for what I wanted, within a price range that I could not bend on. I found 3 boats. One in MN, One in Ohio and One in WI. Within those three options, one was the ghost of a boat, didn't run, gut rot and the trailer looked like it may not make it out of the driveway. One was in relatively good cosmetic shape, mechanically functional although needed a little work, but had a soft spot in the floor. The last one, was very well cared for mechanically, had low hours and was not a water kept boat. it was in the water during use, but was otherwise covered in a garage or boat house. the floors and stringer were as solid as they were when the boat was new. this thing was well cared for, but it was ugly. The exterior of the boat had quite a few spider web cracks in the gel coat, had some holes that were covered up by tape close to the same color of the hull. The holes were drilled for aftermarket bimini top and a cockpit cover. Ugly.

After much deliberation I decided that I would purchase the second option. It looked nice, the interior was recently restored, and only needed a slight bit of work to be water ready. I called and made all the arrangements and was scheduled to pick the boat up that following Friday.

Sleepless nights ensued, The nagging fear of purchasing a boat that had a soft spot in the floor. I did as much research as I could stand looking for anything that would say what I wanted to hear, but everything I read, said that if there was floor rot, even a tiny spot, there was sub-floor damage.

I decided to purchase my third option, the one that was mechanically and structurally perfect, but ugly. I am so glad that I did. It's functional. a user boat. Now I can save all that money it would have cost me to get the other boat operational, and have it painted and the interior done for what I can only image would be less than stringer and floor repair. I am completely happy with my purchase and look forward to years of pleasure with my family and friends.

Day 2

Took her out for her maiden voyage last night. went great. First time at the helm of an inboard and I was very nervous. Went off without a hitch. Hit the water like a dream and that Ford 351 sounds like a muscle Car on the water. So far, I'm in love.
