We purchased this boat two summers ago (Summer of 2004) just a few months after we bought our cottage. After being at our cottage for a few months, our lake was having its annual garage sale; where everyone around the lake that wants to has his or her own garage sale. Well my dad saw this boat sitting outside this guy’s house a few weeks before this but the guy was asking too much for it. So my dad decided to stop by the house during the garage sale & offered him $2000.00, a few hours later the owner called & told him that he just bought the boat.
To be honest when I first saw the boat I thought it was somewhat hideous, but even at only 18 years old I knew of the Correct Craft reputation & what the boat could become should I so desire. So we used the boat as it was for the remainder of the summer and the more I used it the more I was getting into the idea of restoring it, well that idea wasn’t a tough sell on my dad as he had worked on boats for 10-15 years & restored/rebuilt Antique Mahogany Runabouts for about the same amount of time.
So that winter we started the project, the boat needed new everything, & there was a few things that maybe it didn’t NEED but we believed it should have to help modernize the look a bit. We did a complete restoration of it: Removed all Interior, Pulled all original Carpet, Sanded entire hull down, & rebuilt the engine (which we later found out while pulling apart that had 3 of the 8 pistons had broken rings, yet she still ran like a champ that year).
So after 4-5 months of working on it & getting very close to completion my father suddenly had a heart attack, while he was in the hospital we still talked constantly about what needed to be done on the boat to get it done & ready for the Owners Reunion that was taking place @ Cedar Point just a few weeks from that point. Well a few of the guys @ my dad’s shop helped me drop in the motor & do some of the install work to get it running. We got it running and I believe just three weeks out of his quintuple bypass surgery we went to the Reunion and took first place in our class with our "Brand New 1978 Garage Sale Boat".
