This is an original gelcoat 1968 Nautique. The finish is still excellent although she has a few small gouges. The interior has been redone in white with blue trim since the photos. The original white and gray faced speedos are still in place and look remarkable. The nicely detailed and original 318 Chrysler shown gave up the farm in 2002, and while a 340 Chrysler was originally planned as the potent replacement, it’s given way to a big block Ford 428, which is currently being assembled. I picked up the re-ground RH cam from Holman Moody just this past Friday (8/19), but with the typically slow speed of my projects, I won’t say exactly when it’ll get dropped in the boat. But at least there’s progress being shown as this boat’s been sitting on the trailer for 3 yrs now. These older first generation Nautiques don’t pull or track nearly as well as the newer ones but they sport classic inboard lines and really fly with modest HP. So I’m hoping that with something in the neighborhood of 400 HP on tap, it’ll be good for a thrill.
