This 1970 Ski Nautique was given to me in February of 2007. Originally, I was told it was a 1972 however; the guys at Correct Craft helped me identify it as a 1970. They were actually able to tell me the exact build date. The original 1970 Color was the Dark Green. This CC was actually owned and used by the "Hydro Slide" Ski Team in the early 1980’s. It had the Hydro Slide emblem painted on the original scheme. Thanks to Correct Craft for the assistance.
It was a complete disaster when I took possession; the flooring was out, engine was torn completely down, seats were gone and had about 1 foot of leaves in the hull. When I refinished the teak platform, I ran into an ant farm and had to replace several pieces of the platform. In other words it was BAD !!!!!!!! After 16 months of work, we finally got her in the water. The first attempt in the water and the engine threw a rod; cracked the block and cracked the oil pan...what a mess. Reid Pinkham had a low time rebuilt engine which I purchased from him and his guys actually installed for me as well. Runs great now.
This is my first attempt at restoring a CC and hopefully not my last one either. As you will see, it is not put back to it’s original scheme or considered a "Complete" Restoration. Anybody know how much a stripped down CC fiberglass boat shell weighs? Me neither but it is HEAVY !!!
I have met some great friends at CC Fan. As well, I have had a great friend Jeff Lee (Cowboy #1)who has assisted tremendously in putting her back together. If anyone needs original design "step pads",1960’s - early ’70s I have two sources for these, found a gentlemen in New York; Bill Fish who casts these from what he told me original CC molds. His email address is sjwfish@roadrunner.com, They look good! In 2009, he sold 4 for $70. Probably a little higher now. Also, www.n3boatworks.com has these as well...$25 each.
To Reid Pinkham, Chuck Arney "The Lake" and Scott Branum, thanks for your advice and encouragement.
