My dad, brother and I now own our first new Nautique. We picked her up yesterday from Adirondack Marine in Lake George. It was a rather brisk day and the rain showers held off long enough for us to take her out for a bit on the lake. Boy is she a beauty!
I learned to ski behind a Nautique as a kid at a family resort on Lake George in the Adirondacks of New York. Each summer our family would spend a week on vacation at the same spot and I would spend practically my entire week either skiing, waiting in line on the swim dock to ski or in the boat as a spotter. The ski bill for the week would easily be a few hundred dollars (my father wasn’t too pleased!).
In college I worked at the same resort we vacationed, working on the waterfront and had the full use of the ski boat and other boats essentially at my disposal for hours outside the normal waterfront schedule. The staff and I would spend our early evenings skiing and wakeboarding on beautiful Lake George. It doesn’t get much better than that for a college kid. Skiing, sailing and getting paid.
Two years ago we decided as a family to purchase a used ’85 Nautique. We have been out skiing practically every weekend possible from May through early October the past two years. As the family has grown and also the need to do some updates to the ’85 we decided to do an upgrade. We will hopefully be picking up our new 2008 Nautique 206 in a few weeks. We decided to keep the ’85 too and redo the stringers and floor. She will hopefully look like new when we are done. I hope to get my 3 1/2 year old son out skiing either this summer or next, but either way these boats will be around in our family for a long time. Looking forward to some great memories!
