As a kid lucky enough to spend lots of time on a shorefront cottage, one of my favorite memories is watching a 1976 Mastercraft Stars and stripes (new at the time) run the course which happened to be in line with our dock, so I was very fortunate, being the little gearhead that I was, to have the full force of the beautiful music of that 351 as it turned 180 degrees in about 3 seconds about 200 feet away from where I was standing on the dock (That is still my favorite sound in the world!), and I knew, also being the little water-skier that I was, that when I grew up I would have a Tournament ski boat. As I got older, I became partial to SN’s but didn’t have much money, and my dad’s ’59 MFG with a 50hp Johnson could take me skiing, so I couldn’t really justify buying my own boat. It wasn’t until I got a ride and a pull behind my neighbor’s brand new 2000 Sport Nautique that I realized what I was missing! All of a sudden buying my own SN was very justifiable! It wasn’t too many days before I was forking over cash for my ’86, which after almost 10 years I can say is one of the best “bang for the buck” I’ve ever had. With a wife for a driver and a daughter for a spotter, life is good!
