It seems I cannot help myself, as another project has followed me home. The story on this ’80 is that it was supposedly in the water 3 years ago, at which point it quit running- supposedly it lost spark. It then sat covered for 2 years, but was left uncovered this past winter.
The interior and carpet have really taken a beating and need to be replaced. Amazingly, the floor does not have any soft spots, save for the removeable rear panel. Most of the original parts are present, and the original stripes and gelcoat are in good condition, so its a great starting point for a project.
The hope is to get the boat running and in the water this spring/summer, and then start to assess the cosmetics. The 80-81 is my favorite of the 2nd gen Nautiques, so I hope to keep this one around in some capacity for the foreseeable future!
Update 12/1/11:
Well, too many projects on my plate this year kept me from touching the boat this summer. As of this fall, this boat has another co-owner- my college buddy Eric- who will be a driving force to get this project back on track.
We got the engine running, and then pulled it out of the boat. The interior is out now as well. The next steps are to replace the carpet and interior, and go through the mechanicals.
