Here she is! My 1986 dream boat.

Ever since I was a young child, I always wanted an inboard ski boat. It was the sound that did it. Something about that beautiful V8 rumble possessed me whenever they would go by.

In 2011, my desire to own a boat like this came to a head. I had decided that my ideal boat was a pre-1989 Correct Craft. I was nervous about the stringers, but figured there had to be a good, solid boat out there. While searching Craigslist over my 4th of July vacation (to the area in the pictures) I found my boat. A very clean, well maintained, loved Ski Nautique 2001 for $8500. I contacted the seller immediately. After a couple months of testing, sharing custody of it, and selling my 1989 Bayliner (for an amazing $4800), I finally took delivery of MY very own Ski Nautique in early September of 2011.

I had a short month and a half before I had to put my boat away for winter. It was a long winter, but I am very happy that I have been able to enjoy my two loves in life (Manitowish Waters, WI and my SN) during such a warm summer. I absolutely LOVE the looks and waves I get when I drive my boat around the Manitowish Chain of Lakes. People young and old love my boat. But none of them as much as I do. This boat means so much to me. I’m not one for superstition...but I believe a higher calling brought myself, my truck, and my boat together. Here’s how:

In Feb. 2009 I found the exact truck I wanted. A very slightly used (18K miles) 2006 Chevy Silverado crew cab, Greystone Metallic with ALL options...and it looked brand new inside and out. I found it in Madison Lake, MN. Three years later, I found my 1986 Nautique. It’s grey with red accents (like the truck), extremely clean (like the truck) and exactly what I wanted (like the truck). I found it about 10 miles from Madison Lake. I truly believe that my grandfather...a man who I idolized...a man whom I shared a love of automobiles and boats...brought me to both vehicles. My grandfather died on September 11, 2008. His health and mental state had been deteriorating for 8 long years because of dementia. He would have loved my boat. He loved to race and cars that handled like they are on rails.

So...Gramps, join me on my next boat ride. I’ll meet you at the pier.
