Just think of it as keeping those knees moving, lubricated, and in shape for spring. |

Making good progress on the deck and hatch doors.
The doors were tricky and took quite a bit of time but I'm happy with how they turned out. I still need to install the hinges and line them up so I can do final fairing and sanding on them. I then moved on to fitting the outer layer of plywood, this was a nice break from those nasty doors and I got most done in an afternoon. Still need to finish one side of the bow and then the ply on the doors. Then I'll remove it all, cpes and install over the weekend. Next I'll move on to the transom planking and might have the major wood working buttoned up in a few weeks. Then it's bung time and sanding. Sand the floor Danielson, right the circle, left the circle, repeat. |

Thanks guys, I will tell you this boat is going to be solid as a rock but it is getting real heavy. I think it's going ride beautifully but it's going to need some throttle to get it moving. Might find myself tinkering with the powerplant in a few years
Couple of build facts, I am now up to tube #90 of 5200 the screw count is close to 4000. There has to be 200# of glue and screws in this beast. 4.5 gallons of CPES 2 gallons of epoxy ...and I am still under budget. I have about $4000 left in the budget/projected cost but still have the trailer to sand blast and paint, interior vinyl, lots of finishing materials paint and varnish, wiring and gauges. Forget about labor because that's all donated!! |

Your Ribbon Stripe mahogany will look so beautiful.
The only thing that I have seen and would question is that "The Hemi" appears wider than the hatch. Awesome work Alan. And yes, in a few years you'll probably need a Blower and some Nitro. |

Ha, you made me go out and measure it again, Hemi 33" wide , hatch 34" wide. Don't do that to me again!! LOL |

Alan,
I could probably trade a "skinny" 6 banger Interceptor for that bulky old Hemi.. I cant believe how far you've come on the project!!!! |

So, ether someone at CC back then actually had something to measure with or they just got lucky! Really, CC must have had someone good back then - at least on the deck! We know about the frame. |

When this thread started, I thought "man, here we go with YET ANOTHER 1955 Hurricane frame-off restoration, b-o-r-i-n-g!"
All this work should really make this one stand out from the rest, though. |

This is very true however, if the frames don't hold up, then the hull sides and deck will show problems within a couple years. |

Half inch clearance, each side. Pretty tight squeeze.
(hemi vs hatch) If I had a set of Teflon coated shoe-horns, I would surely send them your way. 2" clearance each side used to make me nervous. I'd give Mr. BulkyOldHemi plenty of garage floor run time before planting. Now that I think about it, it's kind of a shame to have to hide the Hemi under anything. |

I don't think it will be that bad Al as long as I have a few extra hands around should drop right in. I do plan to make sure the Hemi is complete and running flawlessly before it goes in though, crawling around on my belly trying to install the gas tank, steering and exhaust is going to be hard enough. I want to spend as little time in there as possible. I'm thinking of temporarily laying down plywood with formica on it along side the engine so my wife can retrieve me by my feet if I get stuck. |

She sure is starting to look pretty. You let me know when that motor is going in and I'll come out and help. If it were me the part of the budget I would be worried about is the travel budget the year after it was done.. cause I would be traveling the whole damn country hitting boat shows with that thing.

B.J., Do realize there are ply sections on the deck that do get painted as well as the accent on the hull sides forward and yes, the bright work will be fantastic. There will be plenty of it following the factory original. As far as CC's go, I will say that the hurricane is the most difficult to restore but it's in the hands of a pro. |
