just thought I would liven the forum up since the boating season is almost over. went on a warranty call a few years ago, the complaint was the engine was locked up, questioned them thru and thru and here is what they said: you sold us these transmissions which were Twin Disc Mg-540's 5500lbs. each about $85000.00 each. we installed them welded all the brackets and all of the bed rails in place and aligned. on start up the starter just clicked and clicked, changed starters and problem was still there. the engine would not turn... what was the problem

another hint: it had something to do with electricity. not a battery or a solenoid either. and the problem was not engine related

I'm a$$uming this is some sort of yacht- perhaps someone was cooking a turkey in the electric oven (visions of that Simpson's episode with Flander's RV come to mind).

Eric, the KEY WORD, i think is ,welded all the brackets and the bed rails in place.If the ground is installed (welding lead) in the wrong place,engine, tranny or anything with a rubber mount,the welding machine will find a path to ground.engine bearing,roller bearings do not like this........

f-in ay boat doc you got it, they welded with the ground clear on the other side of the rails and it jumped the bearings and slightly welded them, you guys figured it quicker than i did,

Years ago at my uncle's boat shop,They were working on early chris or century had a loose lag on motor mount.Guy flat rates it puts in longer lag.Customer brings it back says he can't get it off trailor,guess were the longer lag came out?Both sides were about 3/4 inch into the bunks....

I saw the welding ground deal on a trailer axle once really hard on wheel bearings.

VIP open bow 21 feet,5.7 TBI W/IO .....This is a new boat
motor idles a little funny, not the silkey smooth that they have with 2 hrs.
perform PDI,match #'s drive to engine
install correct 21 pitch s/s prop
fill gear lube tank
check engine oil
fill with regular fuel 10 gals.
check link and sync. of control cables
Go to lake for test run and escape for 1 hr.
motor will only turn 3500 rpm's
this is my third boat boat today,all with the same motor,outdrive,prop,one is blue one is red and this one is green.
timing,advance and valve train all working to specs.

All m/cruiser engines are test run at Stillwater Ok. prior to ship.No red rags,correct plugs,plug wires in order,
