For you 2001 model hull owners, do you guys hear a weird "wurring" sound when you cut the wheel hard at lower speeds? It doesn't come from the engine or transmission from what I can tell. It almost sounds like an animal moaning or a stomach growling. I hope I don't sound crazy, but I'm trying to figure out what that sound is. It's at about 8-10 MPH with the wheel cut hard. My 1980 never made that noise.

Does the sound change in pitch as you slow through the turn? Mines does this occasionally. I believe it comes from the rudder. doesn't sound like anything is broken, more like wind noise except it is underwater.

Yes, it does change pitch as you turn. I don't think I'm hurting anything. It must be water noise or something. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just happening to me.

It's noise from the fins and rudder and prop. Perfectly normal.

Actually, it comes only from the fins. You'll notice that all the Nautiques with the shark shaped fins do it. Our '88 did and so does my '90. Our '92 didnt since they changed to a squarer fin design in '91, I believe.

Thanks, guys. It's certainly a noise you don't hear everyday. I just wanted to be certain that it wasn't some sort of defect.

My 79 Nautique makes the same noise when im turning real hard at a moderate speed. My buddy's 81 makes the same noise. It sounds like the power steering pump in my old Ford truck when you turn it.

Hey Ken,
If I remember right (been so long since I used my boat) mine does the same.
I think you actually hear it turning in one direction and not the other. I thought I had been told it had to do with the prop rotation.
Anyhow, I know it feels good to know it's normal!

Thanks again! One less worry. Is there a way to quiet that noise a little?

JEFF: You are sounding to close to the jbear's PX for noise reduction.
BTW: Why would anyone want their boat quieter anyhow???
