SN 176

you can find the info looking on the brochures on the reference section..from that you can find they were introduced on 1997 as the sn176, then in the 1998 model they offered the sn176 and an air version called air tique, and in 1999 only the air tique version was available...
as for the hull no clue...
I guess Godfather will know more about them...
I recall they were said to have a very good wake for wakeboarding...

I do have a friend up north that does have a 176. All I know is everyone loves to ski behind it!

What do ya want to know about the 176?
I can tell ya set up with a 11-A tabbed rudder and a GT-40 they are wonderfull ski boats. In My opinion one of if not the finest slalom boats ever built.
This was the first computer rendered boat that We Built at Correct Craft. All the original frame stations for the plug came off a computer and then C&C cut on a router. A master Craftsmen tool maker then skined and faired the plug. when one looks a 176 you can see the clean crisp tool work that this man did.
I remember that the boat was so good that managament at the time had us de-tune the boat by installing a hand made stainless steel rudder that was way under sized. Down side to the boat is that it has a rather small interrior space.
None the less it was ahead of its time as it truly was a wide body boat in comparison to what was built at that time.
Also the 176 when weighted made a pretty fair little wakeboard boat.
When Ron Scarpa was still with us he had a GT-40 equipped stripped down 176 that he kept even a number of years after he went to Malibu.
If you dont mind small interrior space and want the best wakes for overall skiing the 176 is a great little boat!

I remember taking the 176 in for a rudder change bronze to stainless, and i dont know why but I truly think mine was a 1996, really i did own one but to me back then it was a ski boat and i didnt put much thought into being a CC, it did have a nice wake and i believe they de-tuned those 176's because they really performed well. I too thought it was a baseline boat until I sold it and found it that it was highly sought after, I hated the flat glass but loved the transom corners

Sounds like because they didn't want a price point boat that would out preform their flag ship boat. Kyle, sounds like a new rudder is in order for you.

I love my 176. It is a great little boat, especially with the GT-40!

I’m a big guy, but the 176 has plenty of room for me – both behind the wheel and moving around in the boat.

I don’t find storage is an issue, but I don’t use the boat much beyond our little lake. With the camp right there I don’t have to worry about keeping equipment in the boat all day.

One small storage issue… I’m not sure if 196 owners have this issue, but I have to be careful when I do have skis in the boat. If I lay a ski behind the driver’s seat next to the motor box I have to make sure the fin is directly behind the driver, otherwise the fin would rest on the back seat. Not a big deal, but it does make me nervous that it might tear the vinyl. Of course this isn’t an issue with the back seat out or in the sun pad position.

As I’m sure my friends on the site know, I’m about as ‘recreational’ as a skier can get, so I’m afraid I can’t comment on slaloming behind my boat. My idea of slaloming is our Connolly ‘Big Daddy’ ski, or – as my uncle calls it – the ironing board. Brad’s friend Erich slalomed behind my boat at the 07 NE reunion and he had great things to say about the wake. Cheney also skied behind my boat that day, but I’m not sure what she thought of the wake.

I have heard that, with some weight in the back, the 176 has a pretty good wake for wakeboarding. I haven’t tried it, but just driving around with a few folks in the back of my boat I can see the wake does indeed look pretty good for wakeboarding.

I will say that after running to and from Log Cove on Lake George the 176 does not handle rough water as well as the 196 or the 2001 hulls. I was behind Keith’s dad in Keith’s 1994 196 on the way up and followed Ken and Patricia in their 1986 2001 on the way back and I found that I seemed to bounce around more than they did. (I now know why the newer boats have a pad under the driver’s elbow!) I’m sure, since the bow on the 176 isn’t as ‘pointy’ as the other boats, it can’t cut through the waves as efficiently.

Tim is correct, with fairly smooth water and only a couple of people in the boat, I can pin the Airguides at 50. I’d really like to check that on a GPS.

Unfortunately I forgot all about the ‘Adirondack Dash’ at LG this year. I saw Tim with the GPS, but figured he was just seeing what the new BF Nautique would do. I didn’t realize I missed out till Keith did the awards at the banquet. Count me in for next year!

Last year I noticed ’98 Prototype 176’ handwritten on one of the aluminum brackets that the motor mounts to on my boat. I emailed CC last year with this information as well as hull numbers and asked for any info they had on my 176 or the ’66 Skylark. I tried several times, but I never heard back from anyone. I know Dave (Hendricks) changed jobs around that time so I assumed I was lost in the shuffle.

Why the hand made rudder?
Well like I said the boat turned out to exceed all expectations as far as performance and ski-ability. Managament at the time really wanted the boat for a entry level platform but it became obvious real quick that the little boat was as good or better a Slalom boat then the flagship Ski Nautique. So orders came down the pipe to de-tune it some how so the obvious was to put a smaller rudder on and effectivly make the boat not track and turn nor be as responsive as the Ski Nautique. The rudder was built in house with a plasma cutter and a grinder, welded with a tig unit and cleaned up as best as one could do it with out spending hours on it.
Want somthing that has the mack daddy flat wake, low spray and will track better than most all of today's tournament boats. Try a 176 put a 11-A rudder in it! TaDa!

I had a 98 Air Tique 176. Nothing wrong with the wake for boarding.I'd still have it,but with a wife,2 kids and guests (or a couple of fatsacs) it was just too small. It was a sweet boat though. IIRC mine had the bronze rudder. Come to think of it, I don't have one single picture of that boat.

NECC had it for sale about 4 years ago. I believe he sold it to a woman who had size and hp restrictions on her lake. She had the motor pulled and had a 4 cylinder motor installed.   

A four banger on a tique..lol sad end for such fine boat...
