98 Martinique - Oil Drain or Need an Extractor?

Hi all - I just purchased a 1998 Martinique BR that I pick up later this month.   The first order of business is to do some routine maintenance including oil change, tranny fluid change, etc. From my searches, it sounds like you extract the tranny oil, but I'm not sure if I need to do the same for the engine oil or if there's a drain. Does anyone know if one is on this boat or what should I be looking for?

a 98? you sure thats right? Do you mean an 89?

It will most likely have a little hose coming off the drain in the oil pan. Just run that out your bilge plug hole, uncap and drain.

Andy,
Many have found that the "oil drain" hoses are more of a "gimmick" than anything. I have one on my 77 and never use it! It simply takes too long due to the small diameter of the hose. I just like I do with my other boats simply suck it out with the vacuum extractor. It works for me!

Where do you pull it from Pete? I can't think of anywhere on the pumpkin where I could get a drain line in.

I like my oil drain line. Works fine with warm oil.

Gotta pull it from the dipstick, Greg. I do this on my Skier, and its a PITA. The oil drain hose works MUCH better! With the thick oil we tend to run, gotta do it warm, thats for sure.

Thanks Pete.   I have been lurking the site while looking for a boat and I picked up lots of good information.   I should have a diary soon and will be asking lots of questions once I get the boat.

Last time I changed my oil I took the cap off of the drain hose, went to the hardware store, got a barb fitting that fit the end of the drain hose and the largest hose from my vacuum pump, hooked it up... and pure happiness!

Just as Tim mentioned, I suck the oil out via the dipstick tube. On the Y block, the tube goes all the way to the bottom of the pan so I just use the large hose and the small rubber "coupling". The Tique I need to slip the nylon tubing down the dip stick tube. With the Atom, it's dip stick tube is about 1&1/2" ID so no problem getting a big tube down it. Then. I pull the inspection cover off the trans and suck it. I typically can get almost an extra quart of engine oil out of it.
