While using my new grease gun to infuse grease into my F25 Yamaha outboard, I somehow broke off the zerc (zerk) fitting that is attached to the tiller. i bought an "Ezee out" to remove the broken off fitting, however, I don't know if the replacement should be an SAE "1/4"--28" fitting or a "metric 6mm" fitting. Sure, I can buy one on ebay for almost $10 (including shipping), but I have dozens of both the SAE and the metric fitting that I already own. I would appreciate hearing from anyone as to which fitting I need to use.......SAE or Metric.?

To add more confusion it could be 1/16 npt.
Get the old one out and compare it to your stash. |

Both the metric and SAE look similar. I wish it were that easy. I just would like to know if Yamaha used metric or SAE fittings.
Thanks |

I think you are going to have to remove the broken one before you install the new one. Maybe you could look at it then and decide which one to use.
Yamaha site may show where it is but I think you would be lucky if they gave any info on sizes. |

If thats the case then either one will probably go in Metric is .039 pitch Sae is .036 pitch Metric .236 dia Sae .250 dia Basically take your pick and see which one screws in the best. |

Based on a fair amount of experience with Yamaha stuff with grease fittings, it's about 99.9% sure to be 6 mm.
Just think Ya-Ma-Ha Ja-Pa-Nese metric whether it's put together in Japan or any other country that they have plants. |
