I have a commander engine that uses the bushings inc. mounts and they are too rusty to do an alignment. I have four new mounts ready to go in but do not have access to a lift. Is there any way to change them with out a lift and do it safely? I am changing the strut bushing at the same time so I get a good smooth running boat. Thanks.

Brad, Use the "old bottle jack under the exhaust manifolds trick". You'll need two small jacks between the stringers and the manifolds. Do the front (or rear) first then the other end. Works great!

Are my commander manifolds strong enough for that? They are stainless steel log type and I am not sure how thick they are?

Yes, any manifold is strong enough. Remember you will only be jacking one half of the engine at a time and that is on two spots.

I'm another user of this method and it works great. When supporting the engine this way you'll actually be surprised by how light the engine seems. And it is very safe. It's also very easy to get the engine re-aligned when using this method. |
