Winter boat project.

I know I should be putting up Christmas lights or maybe even shopping, but playing with boats is so much more fun! My son, Cole, helped me mock up a Corvette hardtop option for my Reinell Jetabout to check for seat locations and windshield fabrication. I think this project is going to take the "easy" way out with a Merc motor instead of grafting in Seadoo power like the last finned boat I did. Hoping to get the major fabrication done by the end of January, so we can start painting in Feb. Lots of work left to do, but it sure beats sitting in traffic around the Mall!

Pete- My wife has other descriptions besides "interesting". My son loves to help out in anyway possible with the boats. In fact, he is going to join ACBS as a Junior Member this year. He is 7 years old and had a blast this past summer learing to ski behind our wooden Tolly. Not may kids his age (or mine, for that fact) will be able to remember fondly learing to ski with Dads old wood boat!

I am not sure why I don't show up on the Fiberglassic member list. I have 4 years left on a 5 year membership. I mostly hang out on the Northwest section (FGNW) but also check the main site several times a week. We are lucky here in the Seattle area. Our ACBS and FGNW chapters have quite a few joint events. The wood boat guys here are not quite as exclusive as some areas in the country. Just a bunch of people who love boats and enjoy using them!

A funny story from last summer. We took my Glassmagic jet boat to the Sandpoint, Id. ACBS show in September. I called ahead and sent pictures to make sure it would be OK. When I was registering, the lady running the booth said "Oh, you have THE plastic boat." We had a great time and by the end of the weekend, had taken all of the local ACBS board for rides. It all comes down to respect. I can respect the time, money, and effort involved in restoring a Hacker triple. If I had the means, I would probably try one. But until then, they just need to respect that some of us are starting with "affordable" projects to hone some skills.

That’s great. My wife actually calls them POS#1, POS#2,... Only after they are done and usable (read that, she can go for a ride with white pants and not sit on a towel) does she call the boats by their name.
