I had a very similar problem with my 83. New coil and left everything else the same. Problem seems to be solved. We had a great run Saturday with no problems.

Tyler,
Did you leave the resistor hooked up as original, or did you bypass it? I may be having the same problem with my 85 351W. |

also the tach can short out and kill the engine, but this usually is during higher RPM's.
the tach is wired through the coil. |

I had that problem, took forever to figure out what was wrong.Turned out my tach was grounded or something, causing my coil to overheat .I replaced the coil, unhooked the tach and never had the problem again.I would think that it is coil related

hey all....got a 85 2001...when we go to the lake starts right up off the ramp...then once the engine is warm it dies(kills itself)...like choke itself out...and then it wont restart for and hour or so...let me know if you've been down this road...oh it has a 600 cfm holley and electric choke(which i think is the problem)..TIA
