haha sorry guys...
got to the shed last night and pushed a button...nothing. Dad and I looked at each other like WTF!??!?! We got mad and started tearing stuff up, well not literally..but we checked battery, checked all power again, all the regular stuff....I pulled the actual start keypad out of the dash and un-hooked it. I rattled it around a little in my hand, gave it the ole tap tap, plugged it back in and it hasn't stopped working since. Tonight I'm going up to confirm that it still works, finish putting the boat together and taking the maiden voyage tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Now I kinda wish it wasn't 40 degrees here...
Hopefully when we get to the shed tonight the boat will fire right up. In which case, dad and I would like to thank you all for the advice posted in this thread. Not sure what I'd do without the CCFAN family!!!! |

Ok, this just in. Terry (good buddy on the ski team has a beautiful heated storage garage man cave place, which is where the sport is now) turned the furnace on in his shed last night to try to dry up the air.
Today (5 mins ago) he went out to the boat to check on it...blower runs, as well as the bilge pumps. Horn won't because we un-hooked it thinking it was messing with us. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?!?!?!? ITs aliiiive :) ...we're hoping its permanently working. After work I am heading up to see if she'll turn over and do other cool stuff!!! |

Well dad is up playing with the boat right now. We're leaning towards going with the first step in parts that could have failed.
I talked to N3 boatworks (midwest cc) and also white lake. By the way, both places were extremely helpful and listened to me cry for a very long time. Here is the keypad on nautiqueparts.com which both places said had a fairly good chance of failing on us. |

Did you check that smaller black lead to the battery?
There may also be a smaller red lead on the positive side which has a fault-prone inline fuse in it. I think that just runs the fuel pumps so it probably has no effect on this particular problem, but worth a check for sure. |

What if I was to say we had put another battery in the boat with a 12v charger connected and still the same outcome?
We did do that. Dad is getting the battery out of the 90 this afternoon and giving that a whirl... |

No Familiarity with the system but I one hundred percent agree with the battery problem diagnosis.. based on the symptoms.

Although my boat is a 2001, not a 2000, I think you have a battery issue. My boat behaved the same way when the guys at the shop ran the batteries down listening to the stereo. Before you go buying a new keypad, hook up a new battery, or, at minimum take a good battery out of your truck, and try it.
I put chargers on mine, yada, yada, nothing worked. Put new batteries in and it's been fine for 3 years now. BKH |

Just finished a 3 hr session working on the 2000 Sport that started this discussion. No luck at all. At times the lights on the touch pad go on dim. When some buttons are pushed they may stay on dim, but if a button outside of the number keypad, the blower button for instance, is pushed we then would lose all lights. We unhooked the blower but that didn't change a thing. NOTHING ever lights anywhere else on the dash. Chased the emergency stop switch, (behind and down from throttle), thought that was flaky but it checked good. VERY weird troubles for sure. We are kinda down to a super bad keypad or problems in the large circuit breaker control box. Any other ideas? Thanks

Mikey,
Thank God for key floats.... That is unless the keys weigh more then the floats, LOL!! The biggest problem with the keyless is too many people end up knowing your key... or code that is, LOL. |

Dozens? I don't know about that. I recall seeing a couple over the years out of the thousands in service. From my personal experience it's a super-reliable, modular system. It's never cost us a moment of water time and I don't see it doing so in the future. Personally I'd take it over miles of wiring and crimped connectors. The WOW factor is also impressive. At the first touch of the dash, the backlighting kicks in on all the controls- a nice amber. Turning on an accessory causes that key's light to turn green rather than amber. The heater's 3 speed control is handled by hitting that button 3 times- low, medium, high, off. Somebody really put time into the smart pod. Behind the pod the wiring is ultra-simple- a basic connector going to each keypad. This brochure pic doesn't do the backlighting any justice. This dash was so futuristic and so leading edge that the rest of the industry still hasn't caught up. The touch-button interface on our club's Malibu is laughable in comparison. |

As scottb says, the power toggle switch WAS NOT available in 2000. It was retrofitted on a couple boats, including mine, at a nontrivial expense. The smart pod causes a drain that will kill the battery after a week or so as scottb also mentioned.
All I know is that the dash pod does VERY WEIRD THINGS with low voltage and/or bad grounds at the battery. There is an additional black ground wire in addition to the main negative cable on the battery. Make sure that guy is making solid contact or the dash tends to go haywire. |

Don't believe so on the ignition switch. We checked all breakers on the motor. The problem is wiring in/under the dash. It has to be no?
On this page it shows our breaker box. I'm hoping the box didn't get fried somehow (you'd think the breakers would break before-hand) Also on this page is the keypads, wondering if those could have gone bad. Nautique Parts |

is there a ignition switch like older SN has which kills power to everything, or how about the main breaker under the motor box.

I believe the 3 position toggle, ON-Off-Bilge Pump Only switch did not come out until 2001. My 2000 Sport has a battery selector switch or Main switch, but it was added after delivery and it is mounted to the front of the kick panel. It was added due to a low current drain somewhere that would completely drain the battery after about a week or so. Unlikely you have it, because you definitely would not miss it.

Can you give the PO a call and see if he know s where the MASTER switch is? I remember seeing this on RJ's Super Air, but I don't remember where. Its a sizable switch more like a knob (like fuel selector in a Cessna...)

This boat started fine before it was delivered. We know the seller and have proof. I don't doubt his truthfulness.
Something happened on the drive, or there is a switch we're not seeing. Water ruined something. grrrr |

I Can't help with the specifics, but I would suggest that if you're wiggling wires and causing things to short, (LED's) stop! you may cause more damage than you already have. Start with the basics, and if someone can supply a wiring diagram, follow it. You may just have loose connections or corosion. use your Multimeter to check for voltage to the back of the fuse/breaker panel, and follow each electrical path until something doesn't look right. Check for a bad connection, clean, tighten, and start again. Think of a wire as a hose for electricity, and each breaker/fuse as a nozzle shut off...
Connections are usually the part that breaks, or gets so corroded voltage drop becomes an issue. Most importantly, if you don't know about something, stop and ask, it could save you in the long run. If you take stuff apart, be sure to take LOTS of pictures!!! |
