It's a "fits all" engines (with a Velvet) plate so it's diameter is large enough to accommodate all 7 hole patterns of any flywheel. The Fords flywheel are smaller and that's why the trimming is needed. It may interfere with the starter nose.


   

Sachs is a very reputable company, owned i believe by Borg and Beck, they are a very durable plate....and are made in a civilized country

I´m surprised on the origin of the plate..Brazil..is the center an automotive part or marine specific?

I had the same issue on my '74 and ended up buying the trimmed down Sachs (ALTDA-106A) from Basic Power for $90, but I was pressed for time. Also, you'll find that only 3 of the 6 bolts used on the factory damper will match up on the flywheel with the Sachs.

Is this your experience as well Eric?

for reading purposes, when changing the damper, when at all possible, leave it finger tight and install the transmission to the engine and then come back in and tighten the bolts...this method will center the damper on the flywheel.

not to hijack but I assume this will fit my 85' 2001, 351 velvet drive ? and my transmission works fine but I think it is all original should I replace the damper for preventive maintenance ?

With the 7 different hole patterns/centers, it's supposed to fit any flywheel with a B/W trans. (the number of spines matches the Velvet}

The last one I put on the Tique and I did have to cut it down. I scribed the diameter, cut it on the band saw and then finished it off on the disk sander. The one I replaced on the Y block (same Sachs) did not need trimming.

106a, has the edges cut....about 99% that is the one you need

could anyone help me verify sachs driveplate plate# for 86 SN 351,B/W VELVET DRIVE.i have seen it posted in past and wrote it down,part#80106,availible through MER equipment.i called to order it and they question wether it will be strong enough.i know Eric uses them.thanks for the help
