easily. Well at least the PCM's you can. I don't think the other options were any different either.

My aftermarket taller trick flow VC's are taller than the stock ones and they still can barely be taken off or put on without touching the exhaust manifolds.

The issue is that with the steel insert you actually CAN torque them down properly so the bolts don't back off with vibration and not crush the stamped valve cover while doing so. I also put a dab of locktite on my valve cover bolts, they will never leak or back off.

I've never had an issue with either all rubber or all cork ones.

Then again, I know not to torque the heck out of them.

I'm pretty certain you can get the nice ones like the PCM ones from jegs or summit at least.

Do this because the tilt of the engine along with the stamped steel covers are just looking for a place to leak.

Jody is definitely right.

If youre not in a huge rush, the PCM gaskets (available at SkiDIM, etc) are pretty nice- they are cork and have metal washers around the bolt holes, so they prevent you from compressing the gasket too much when you torque the valve covers down.

Yes you can pick them up at any auto parts store however buy premium / performance brand and not a house brand.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

Hey All,

Probably a silly question but, is there any difference between a valve cover gasket for a 1980 351 Commander marine engine and a regular 1980 351 auto engine? Can you just pick them up at the local auto parts store?

Thanks
