Interesting, had always been under the impression transom-mount wouldn't work, I stand corrected. Thanks

Not exactly true. They are a bit harder to get working but it is possible. I have a Hawkeye transducer transom mounted on my 98 Sport. Had to fiddle a bit with the adjustment but it now works perfectly. |

Oh & by the way a transom-mount transducer won't work with an inboard, too much turbulence.

I glued one in my 75 Century, slightly to the side of the tranny (v-drive). Worked great for a while then pretty much quit, so didn't bother putting one in the Southwind. Biggest hazard here (Lake Oconee GA) is submerged trees which a depthfinder won't pick up at speed (in time)anyway......I keep a handheld in each boat, perfect for unfamiliar docking and the occasional spot-check. Flashlight-type; just stop for a minute..stick it in the water and puch the button for an accurate reading. Started with a Hawkeye handheld which was unreliable & broke in a month; now use Vexilar LPS-1-sturdy and reliable, recommend to anyone.

I glued mine in the same location of Jllogan, just slightly off center.

I just purchased a HawkEye depthfinder for my 95. Before I go experimenting with where to mount the transducer (off stern or through hull), can someone give me some advice on what worked for them?
Thanks, Mark |
