Thanks Peter for the tip. The base of these relays is not your typical Auto config, in-as-much as the pins on the relay are recessed in the housing, and the housing slides onto a 'moisture 'proof' receptacle that has a rubber seal. Where-as the auto types, the pins are exposed and just plug into the board.

I would agree that Hella is a good brand. We'll have to see if one of the electronic gurus on here has found a higher amp-rating relay.

I'd go with a name brand - Hella is a good relay. They sure must be pushing the amp limit on the contacts considering how many problems everyone has with them. An alternate would be looking for a relay with a better amp rating. Are the bases for the relays a standard auto configuration?

Ok, so, I took a look at the PCM GT-40 manual today, and it would appear from the diagram on page 3H-5 the Fuel Pump relay is closer to the ECA than the EEC System relay. In which case I replaced the former. The one from Autozone was not a Hella, but got be back on the water. Is it generally accepted to replace both these relays with the OEM Hella-brand units or are the cross-referenced units adequate? They're cheap enough I don't mind ordering a couple more.

So, as we discussed in Common Questions I think, I explained that my fuel pump (GT-40/EFI) was not priming when key turned on, and was intermittent. Also had an occasional complete engine cut-out when driving.

The suggestion was the relays at the ECU. Auto zone only had one, so I replaced the inboard relay, and all seems well after several dozen starts, etc. I'll swap the other for good measure as they are 13 years old.

I'm usually apprehensive of just changing parts, preferring a definitive diagnosis, but the relays are cheap. We'll see if the problem is cured. I haven't pulled up the schematic, what all is on that relay if someone knows off-hand.
