I use FB quite a bit actually for lots of different reasons. Since my girls live with there mom 70 miles away I can keep up with whats going on in their lives. I've touched bases with friends I grew up and lost contact with and we talk regularly via a msg or even picking up the phone. One of my motorcycle buds I regularly ride with is a HS bud who I hung out with back in the day and found via FB. I've been out with and dated a few of my female friends with whom we were just acquaintances with but never had the nerve to ask out in HS. Saved my old coolege Fraternity from closing the doors because of it. Lots of great things. Allot of you guys are my FB friends and we all know whose on the water as a picture of the lake, ski run, whatever is easily uploaded from your cell. Enjoy allot that it has to offer but you won't see me sporting a FB T-shirt or making plans to hang with boat buds over there. I still and always will be a CCFan junkie.

Same here Gary my wife and girls are all avid facebook users. Even though I work in IT I have resisted joining. They also refer to CCFan as "Boatbook"

There is a running joke in our house that my wife Liz is my only friend. She IS my only facebook friend, years ago when she signed up, I signed up as well, but I just don't get the FB thing.
My family calls CCFan "Boatbook"! |

+1 on Larry's summary of FB, couldn't have said it better myself. I just can't get into it... I've been contemplating deleting my account because I never use it but just haven't got around to it.
BTW, my apologies to the 40+ people who have sent me "friend requests" that I ignore. It's not that I'm an A-hole and don't want to be your friend I just really don't have time to deal with FB and would rather you just send me an email, or better yet, how 'bout you pick up the phone and give me a call? I'm a huge fan of technology, but I think we are losing something these days when the only way we communicate is through txt messages and FB posts. |

I think Larry just gave the best summary of Facebook I've ever heard.
I originally joined because there was a big push going into a high school reunion. It's funny, I just ran into a girl I went to high school with at the gas station. We're "friends" on facebook. Nothing bad about her, she's a nice girl, but we ran out of stuff to talk about in real life before I was done pumping my gas. The rare, non-food or cancer related, pictures I see of friends and family are what keeps me partially addicted. My it's getting harder and harder to get a real "fix" of anything interesting. |

I'm not on FB and don't plan to join. I don't have a problem with it, for those that like it or use it to stay in touch it's great. I'm just not looking for anyone, and already spend way too much time on a computer. So, unless family reasons get the better of me, I'm going to stay away. My wife is on so if something really interesting comes on from a family member she'll let me know.

I know how the goverment keeps there eyes on it closely,so do crimnals, and even your employers. Some people I have heard lost jobs cause of FB.Sad a guy having a little fun with friends and has a pic of a beer and is 3 sheets to the wind and gets fired.Just being on there for the first few weeks,my friends do somewhat go overboard.Like telling there location etc. I am with Tonalli and others on flying under the radar. But family and friends said just limit your conversations to a little, and you will be fine.It is somewhat neat though seeing how some of your old highschool buds have changed.I have had to bite my tongue a couple of times.

I am all for staying under the radar. I have a few relatives who choose to fabricate FB personas and use them to find out what other people who don't want anything to do with them, are doing. I am not into placing all of my private thoughts out there for all to see. CCF is better. At least we are all on similar pages, recreationally speaking.

Facebook for sure, but not many friends. Not that I have few friends, but for the reasons Larry spoke of. I am quick to "unfriend" those who need to inform the FB world that they lost their car keys, or that they stubbed their toe on the way to the computer. I also don't need to know that you're checking in at the Speedway gas station.

Facebook is kind of like jet skis. Not a bad idea, but most of the users mess up a good thing. There are those that think you are just dying to see a picture of the yummy mac and cheese they are eating for lunch. And then there are those that think their political pontifications to their 22 friends are far wiser than those of the authors of many great books, which usually serve no purpose other than to piss off 50% of their friends. And then my favorites, the ones that post a picture of a kid with cancer, a veteran or a puppy and tell you if you can't be bothered to "like" their cause then you have no heart and are a bad person. As if clcking "like" on facebook is going to change the world. Then recently, this one really amused me, after facebook went public zillions of users decided they needed to post their own "privacy policy" declaring that the junk they post on facebook (like the picture of their mac and cheese) is not public, demonstrating a total lack of understanding of the legal system and the fifty page terms of use that they accepted without reading. While they are at it, they might as well declare themselves the king of England. All that being said, yeah, I'm on facebook, mostly because everyone in my extended family is and its how they all came ot share info and pictures, so I joined in, though in a very limited scale.
