Some distributors do have oil cups that are meant to lube the top bushing. I haven't seen any lately. Others may comment but you may have to pull the distributor or the mechanical advance to get to the bushing. Engine oil with ZDDP would be my choice!

SNOBS--ty-- now getting oil in that thing on the side,, like a 3and 1 type can? just a few drops.. Looks rather hard to get anything in there?

The cam gets special grease for points - you can get it at auto parts store. Usually, there is some left on the low point of the cam that you can just re-smear. I never worried about it other than applying grease at a points change.

The oil cup gets regular motor oil - use whatever you have handy.
