Need to take a couple of steps back here.
The GT40 has a engine wiring loom that goes from the ECM back to all the sensors, breakers etc in the engine bay. There is also another wiring loom that goes from the engine back to the dash area.(in a normal analog gauges and breaker panel with ignition switch setup). In your case this will more than likely go back to the PME distribution box. Nicola get some more pictures for us:- 1. Firstly The wiring loom the previous owner was making. 2. Picture of wiring at rear of dash pod (I think some digital gauges have been replaced already) 3. The wiring and plugs from PXE gateway box. 4. Picture of "10 way" plug that goes from engine to dash both ends.(see explanation below) I think the previous owner may have been looking at replacing wiring loom at the PXE to avoid purchasing a replacement unit. It could be done but will entail a full rewire with standard breakers, gauges and ignition switch. The GT40 wiring loom on the engine has a plug that then goes to dash panel. It is somewhat of a standard PCM setup. This wiring loom could be custom made locally but get a picture as you may already have this wiring but just need to modify it somewhat at the Gateway box and dash. The GT40 manual refers to this loom as the 10 way connector. Skidim refer to it as a eight prong plug harness. Happy to test your ECM for you PM me and I will send you my address. |

Thanks so much for all ya input ! Really amazing.
Would it be possible to this engine to wire it up so it could run with out the wirring loom? It could be really good with org gauges but i Think i go with new analogs. |

Just went back to start of thread. You have a challenge on your hands there with wiring an electrical items on a GT40 2000 boat in that condition.
Trying to obtain a GT40 wiring loom is going to be difficult. Only option maybe a donor boat somewhere? Being in Denmark is going to make it even harder. Jody from Florida Inboards did a few engine swaps on GT40 engines and may have a wiring loom. I remember that he had a ECM at one stage also. Good ECM's are getting quite scarce and the market price is increasing. What is wrong with current wiring loom?? I agree if the PME box is NBG the possibility that touch pad is also bad. Looking at the original pictures I also question the condition of the ECM (computer). Looks like the mounting bracket with breakers and ECM has been turned sideways to allow for the closed cooling to be fitted. If you have to replace PME, Touchpad and ECM it is going to get expensive quickly. I would first test your current ECM before I went any further as that maybe the final hurdle that makes staying original not practical. Do you know of any other GT40 powered boats locally or nearby who could test your ECM for you? I would offer to test it for you but sending it to Australia will have a freight cost component. But quite happy to do it. Good luck with project. |

Good eye.
Yeah, I would think it might be easier to just go traditional with the Fuel, Temp, Oil Pressure, and Voltage Gauges and Tach. Just pick a set (or individual pieces) with the right sizing for the cutouts and complimentary color scheme. Then, you could go with either a Precision Star Speedo or go Full Stargazer with it if he wants speed control as well. Actually, the Stargazer would take care of Tachometer duties as well. If you go about half way down the 1st page of this Fish Nautique Thread you can get some wiring inspiration. It looks daunting, but definitely more cost effective than trying to recreate the factory installation in this case. |

Brian, it is a 2000, and you can see the questionable digital gauges in this pic...those will definitely need to be tested, and the replacement ain't cheap. |

You might want to decide if replacing the PME Gateway Box is really the way you want to go.
That method will allow you to keep using the touchpads... but, there's a high probability that those will be toast as well. Also, what year is this boat? It's in the era of problematic speedos, if it's a 2000 or 2001. Usually this site always preaches to keep it original, but in this case, that may be impractical. You might want to just wire up the whole thing from scratch, go kind of old school with it. Take a look at this page: Skidim Wiring Stuff They sell a pre-wired instrument kit. Then, you could maybe get a Stargazer Perfect Pass to add in for your Speedometer/Speed Control. |

Drawings? No drawings here but I got pics. Looks like a 2000, which mine is also, with the same beam, so I assume the platforms will be the same. I'm sure Tim will correct me if I'm wrong. Congratulations on the new boat, can't wait to see you bring it back to life! |

Wirenet, Wiring loom. I believe the term that will be most understood when working with American parts providers/sources would be
Wiring Harness. Gotta love the English language and all it's interesting twists and turns... |

Like lewy said, YES, it being a gt40 makes it much easier to repair and get parts for. I'd send the guys at skidim an email and they can probably direct you to where to find that replacement breaker for cheap. And YES being a gt40 it does NOT have protec. Again that's a big plus for you. |

The Ford GT40 PCM engine is much nicer than the early Protec fuel injected engines from PCM.
It is multipoint injection for starters. It was put together using mainly Ford parts so it makes sourcing parts much easier. Most of the parts cross over from the EEC1V based V8 auto engines. This may not help you much in Europe but in the US most of the auto chain stores carry these parts. From the pictures you can see the ECM hanging down this is the only part that is quite difficult to source. This is a bit of a worry and the general condition of that engine is not good. Salt water and being left uncovered to the weather for some time are not kind to electrical parts and wiring. |

I hope you're good with electrical wiring. I think that thing is going to be a wiring/electrical nightmare.

My absolute dream boat ! Thanks Zach ! I will hook you up when I hopefully buy it :)
I will make a trip to it next week, one last view before my desision. Yeah, in denmark there is only Salt Water. So closed cooling system is the best. As i understand the engine gets a bit higher temp, but that should be good. About 80' Exhaust manifolds are saltwater cooled. Yeah i was thinking building my own platform. 2 choises. 1: Teak ( looks like a milion ) 2: Stainles stell frame with glassfiber platform in the middel. Then a new couch in the back and a observertor seat, and properly a new drivers seat :) |
