i havnt went near the shift cable tho.. the problem has only arisen since fitting the new throttle cable! if i push the throttle cable forward or back it just wants to rev and doesnt go into gear like it should.. to put it into gear u have to jerk it forward and back again quickly before you can put on the power!

altho now to add to my problems we were out last night and the steering went.. cutting a long story short when we took off the housing at the back of the wheel the cog that comes from the wheel itself (see attached photo) is missing quite a few splinds.. this must have happend over a period of time but some of the broken splinds nestled themselves into the grooves of the bigger cog thus meaning the wee cog cudnt run past it giving me a very limited amount of steering!

need to find a new cog now if anyine can help me out with a name for it or a source this side of world

Got the new throttle cable fitted (Altho 16feet was 2feet short) so few improvisations in the cable route!!

The problem I have now is that when I push the throttle lever forward to put the boat in gear it wants to rev before the boat is actually in gear.. U neary have to give it a hard rev to get it into gear! Also the same for reverse. Very hard to find as u have to give it a good rev to let it find reverse!

Any reasonable explanation as to what the issue is??

Ps will upload photos as soon as I figure out how!!

Welcome Davy,

I think those cables are the same on both ends so it does not matter which end goes where. The end that attaches to your throttle for the driver has the little brass head that you speak of. The small hole is for a cotter pin once you have it in place. The end that attaches to your carb will have a piece that is spring loaded and attaches to your carb linkage. there is a backup nut on it. I would recommend that you tape your new cable to the old and pull the old out while pulling the new into place. This is how my 83 is set up. I assume yours is similar. Lets see the pics!!

hey guys,

new to the forum so hopefully it can be a help as i plan to restore a 1992 2001 nautique over the course of the harsh winter that we get here in ireland!

before we take the boat out for the winter period tho i had planned on doing some wake boarding until the throttle cable broke at the week end...

i got the new throttle cable today and i plan on fitting it 2moro night..

can anyone guide me in the right direction in regard to the throttle end of the cable and how it attached to the throttle lever??

there is brass head that screwed off the old cable straight onto the new one (il attach a pic if i can find out how) and i imagine that pushes in somewhere but there is a small hole thru the centre that im not sure about..

any help will be appreciated!

thanks
